Hello Bush Hill Families!
Bush Hill is participating in Bike to School Day this Wednesday May 4th
Join children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking and bicycling.
Why Walk, Bike or Roll?
It helps create healthier habits – encouraging regular physical activity, helps children build strong bones, muscles and joints.
A cleaner environment – it helps reduce the amount of air pollutants emitted by automobiles.
Promotes Safety – teaching children the importance of walking/traffic safety
Community Benefits – Less traffic congestion, stronger sense of community
So lace up your sneakers or strap on your helmets Panthers and get to school by foot or wheels instead of riding in a car this WEDNESDAY Mary 4th.
Congratulations to Ambler Goddin, Second Grade Teacher at Bush Hill! We are honored to announce that she has been nominated for a 2021-2022 Fairfax County Special Education PTA Award recognizing outstanding achievement in supporting students with disabilities and learning differences in Fairfax County Public Schools. Ms. Goddin has been nominated for the following award category: Outstanding General Education Teacher- Elementary (includes PreK). SEPTA will hold a ceremony and announce the winners for their awards on May 21. We are so proud of you!
The Bush Hill Music Department is gearing up for our Spring Concert. The Band, Orchestra and Chorus Spring Concert will be the evening of Thursday, May 12 at 7:00 PM outside Bush Hill Elementary. Families should bring their own chairs/blankets to sit on. The rain date will be the following Thursday: May 19th at 7 PM.
Students who are in band, orchestra, or chorus should dress up for the concert. Students should wear white shirts and black (dark) pants or skirts. We would prefer that the shirts have no writing on them. Chorus will be standing on risers for their concert. Please encourage your child to choose shoes which will allow them to stand comfortably.
Please remember that all students must be accompanied to and from the performances by an adult. We look forward to seeing you at our Spring Concert!
Bush Hill is hosting a book drive for our community! We are collecting lightly used or new books though June 6th. The books that we collect will be redistributed to families through our Book Bus on two Monday evening in May/June (dated to follow). We plan to drive the bus to various stops throughout the neighborhoods. They will be able to get a book or two and a popsicle to start off their summer reading 😊 There will be a bin in the front lobby for donations.
Hey Bush Hill Parents and Families! Field day is finally making a comeback this year. What’s field day you may ask? It’s a day where your student(s) celebrates all the fun and exciting things they’ve learned in PE this year! Field day is Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 (Rain date Friday, June 3rd). For Kindergarten-3rd grade it will take place: 9:20- 12:20, and 4th-6th grade: 1:00- 3:45 pm. For this special day to be a continued success, we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can assist with leading activity stations. If you’re not available the day of to volunteer, we are also hoping for donations of freeze pops and/ or to loan a pop-up/ canopy tent to provide some shade for students at stations. If you’re interested in donating freeze pops or loaning a pop-up tent, please make sure to drop them off any time before the event (Tuesday, May 31 being the latest). Feel free to sign up online using this link OR use the form that was sent home today in Tuesday folders. Please sign up no later than May 13th for planning purposes, if you are interested in joining us for a fun filled day! If you have any questions, please give us a call or email.

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Bush Hill Elementary School is pleased to inform you of a summer program, Bridge to Kindergarten, designed for students entering kindergarten this fall. The program will focus on daily kindergarten routines, math, and literacy experiences, and becoming familiar with the school environment. We believe your student would benefit from participation in this program.
The Bridge to Kindergarten program will begin on July 11th and end on July 29th and meet four hours daily, Monday through Friday from 9:40 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. There is no tuition or fee for this program and bus transportation will be available from within our school boundaries.
If your student is not currently registered for kindergarten in the fall, you will need to contact our school Registrar, Elizabeth DePalma, and complete the necessary paperwork before registering for this program.
We hope that your student will be able to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to attend Bridge to Kindergarten! Space is limited, and registration is done on a first come first served basis.
For additional information, please contact our Summer Site Director, Emily Ransom at ecransom@fcps.edu.
Important Immunization Requirement: Do You Have a Student Entering Seventh Grade or Twelfth Grade This Fall?
If yes, your student may need one or more of the following immunizations:
7th Grade:
- One dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) given at age 7 or older.
- One dose of Meningococcal Vaccine (MenACWY, Menactra, or Menveo) given at age 10 or older.
- Two doses of HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine. The first dose shall be administered before the child enters the 7th grade. After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent or guardian, at the parents or guardians’ sole discretion, may elect for the child not to receive the HPV vaccine. FCPS does not require opt-out documentation for the HPV vaccine.
12th Grade:
- One dose of Meningococcal Vaccine (MenACWY, Menactra, or Menveo) given at age 16 or older.
Effective July 1, 2021, these immunizations are required for all students entering seventh and twelfth grades. Parents or guardians should ask their private healthcare provider, or the health department, to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.
Seventh grade students cannot begin school in August without documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines.
Twelfth grade students cannot begin school in August without documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.
Documentation must be provided to the student information assistant (SIA) or registrar at the school your student is currently attending or will be attending in the fall as soon as possible.
Acceptable documentation can be one of the following:
- A copy of your student's immunization record showing the date the immunization was given.
- A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the immunization was given.
- A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption for a student who cannot receive the immunization due to medical reasons.
- A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online at: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/health_medical/certificate_religious_exemption.pdf.
These immunizations are available from your student’s healthcare provider or the Fairfax County Health Department. Immunizations are also available at local pharmacies, such as CVS and Walgreens, and urgent care centers, such as Patient First.
The following clinics provide immunizations to low income families or those families with or without insurance:
More information about immunization requirements and exemptions can be found in the current version of FCPS Regulation 2101 and on the General Registration Immunization section of the FCPS website.
The complete list of mandated vaccines can be found on the Virginia Department of Health-School and Day Care minimum immunization requirements.
