to Your Favorite Teachers at FCPS

The first week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week. This year, you can submit a recorded message thanking and celebrating FCPS’s amazing teachers and staff. Please submit your recording (up to 60 seconds) by noon on Wednesday, April 27

Your video message may be selected to share with our teachers and community on the FCPS website and social media channels throughout Teacher Appreciation Week. 

Surprising our teachers and staff with these messages of gratitude and support is part of the fun so keep your contribution under wraps until May.

More information and a submission form are available online. Please be aware, the submission form requires a Google account. If you do not have a Google account and wish to be part of the celebration, share your messages on social media and tag us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

We want to give a big "Thank You" to our HES school nutrition employees in the cafeteria!  They are in early preparing the food for the day and always have a smile when they are serving our students!

HES Turns 60 Celebration "Thank YOU"!

Thank you for everyone that celebrated HES 60th Birthday!  We were lucky enough to celebrate with local celebrates like Sheila Olem (Herndon Mayor), Scott Braband (FCPS Superintendent), and legends like the Garden ladies!

So much to look forward too....New outdoor learning gardens and addition to our HES playground.  60 looks good on you HES!!!

HES Students Selected for
Reston-Herndon Area Orchestra

HES area orchestra students

Several Herndon ES students were selected for the “Reston-Herndon Area Orchestra”!  It is an honor to be invited into this after-school orchestra. These students have shown great improvement with their playing this year and they are all very talented musicians!

There were only 30 elementary school students selected to participate in this orchestra. Students come from all elementary schools in Herndon and Reston.

Congratulations to our students and our strings teacher, Chelsea Haislip, for such a wonderful accomplishment!

5 Mile Fun Bike-A-Thon
Benefitting KIDS R FIRST

Registration Deadline Extended to May 7


When: Saturday, May 21, 2022 – Check in between 9am and10am with a parent/guardian.
Where: Green Lizard Cycling – 718 Lynn Street, Herndon
Cost: Registration for the Bike-A-Thon is $25 * and includes a free t-shirt. Or you may obtain a minimum of $50 in sponsor donations instead of the fee. Pledge sheet is here. Registration deadline extended!  Please turn in fee or sponsor money with the form (English) or form (Spanish)  by May 7th.

All fees and donations are tax deductible. We accept cash or checks made out to: The Green Lizard Foundation.
*Scholarships available – contact parent liaisons or counselors
Prizes will be awarded to the biggest fund raisers. Top prize is a Cannondale Quick bicycle.
This is for students in grades 3-6 only. A parent/guardian must remain at the event. We will have experienced trail riders riding along with students in small groups. Street crossings will be monitored by volunteers. ALL RIDERS MUST WEAR A HELMET.

SOL Schedule for Grades 3-6

SOL Schedule

Students in grades 3-6 are taking their SOLs (Standards of Learning Test) now through the end of May.  A good night's sleep, breakfast, and coming to school on time will help our students.  Also, please try not to schedule appointments the day of testing.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2022-23 School Year

We're excited to welcome our newest Herndon ES Bees for next year!  A child may enter kindergarten for this coming school year if he or she turns five on or before September 30, 2022.   

If you have not registered your child, we are scheduling appointments for all rising kindergartners.  We have Spanish translators in the office and can arrange for other languages as well.  Please click here to begin the registration process now or contact Shermin Sirajudin, our Student Information Assistant, by email at ssirajudin@fcps.edu or by phone at 703-326-3100.
