Greetings!
This weekend I spent some time at Lake Braddock Secondary recruiting for our school to fill a few of our vacancies for the 2022-23SY. It was great to connect with potential candidates and work with our staff to interview. This coming week our students will begin taking their first SOL Assessments. The students have been working so hard and we are proud of their continued efforts! Also, if you missed the PTA Meeting this past Tuesday, please view the video here. We discussed the new Tutoring.com program, Glasgow progress within our SIIP & ESSER and other items. Also, the 8th grade celebration will be linked with the end of the year Field Day Celebration (June 8th, 2022) for our 8th graders. More details to come. We will not have a dance this year. Our Field Day will be outside with music and fun activities for our students to create their last memories as 8th graders before going on to high school.
An upcoming opportunity to meet Dr. Michelle Reid, our incoming superintendent. She will be visiting FCPS next week to learn more about our schools and community. On Tuesday, May 3 from 7pm - 8:30pm, she will have an in-person meeting with families, staff and students at Annandale High School. Please register to attend, as seating capacity will be limited. Language interpretation will be available.
Dr. Reid will also hold a virtual town hall for families and employees on Tuesday, May 17 from 7pm-8pm via Zoom. Registration details will be shared soon by FCPS. She will also hold additional opportunities to meet students, staff, and families after her official start date, so don’t worry if you can’t make these first meetings. I am excited for our FCPS community to get to know Dr. Reid!
Morning attendance calls, texts, and e-mails are suspended until June 10. Many of our students are involved in AP and SOL testing and are in designated testing sites during our normal attendance-taking time. Evening attendance notification will continue. Parents and guardians continue to use the normal absence reporting. If you have any questions, please contact our attendance secretaries in our main office.
As always, if you have any questions please connect with your child’s Panther Time teacher, Assistant Principal, Counselor or teachers. We are here to support in any way we can.
Humbly,
Victor L. Powell, Principal

Congratulations to Glasgow students Lina Rosenbaum and Rahel Kassa (grade 7), who participated in the All-State Choir in Mechanicsville, VA, April 21-23. These students were selected through a competitive audition process, prepared their music independently, and then had two days of rehearsals with a guest conductor followed by a concert performance. They performed a program of advanced choral music including pieces in English, Latin, and French. Lina and Rahel were exemplary models of professionalism and maturity. We are so proud of their accomplishment!
