Principal's Message

 Dear Mustang Families-

The march towards the end of the year continues! We usher in May next week, which is always a fun month at SCMS. We will start off May by honoring all of our amazing staff members during Staff Appreciation Week. The admin team and PTSO have collaborated to create a daily surprise for each of our staff members between May 2-May 6. Please take some time next week to express your gratitude to our teachers. Something as simple as an email can mean the world to a staff member (especially from students)!

May is busy for other reasons as well. Students will take their SOL exams during the month. As communicated earlier, all 7th grade students will take Reading and Math exams, while 8th graders will take Reading, Math and Science. 8th grade science will be administered on May 9, all Reading exams will be on May 11, and all math exams will be on May 17. Students will take exams during the 3rd period learning seminar, which will be flexed to the beginning of the day. Please remind your students to arrive on time with a fully charged laptop. All students will receive emails with their assigned testing locations.

Lastly,  Eid al-Fitr, also known as the lesser Eid, marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, and is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. (The Muslim use of a lunar calendar means these dates begin between 10 to 11 days earlier each year.) Muslims congregate that morning for Eid prayers. It is a time of official receptions and private visits, when friends greet one another, presents are given, new clothes are worn, and the graves of relatives are visited. The most common way to wish someone a Happy Eid al-Fitr is Eid Mubarek, which means “blessed feast” (or festival). FCPS has designated Eid al-Fitr as a religious and cultural observance day designed to allow students the opportunity to miss school for observances not already designated as school holidays.

This past Wednesday, I had the pleasure of watching the opening night performance of Shrek, The Musical, Jr. The talent of the cast and crew absolutely blew me away! If you have free time this weekend, be sure to attend. It’s great to have live theatre again at SCMS.  Shrek Tickets

Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for your continued partnership.

Sincerely,

drop off

Drop Off by Cafeteria

There have been some instances with cars dropping off students by the cafeteria, Door #3, to avoid the kiss and ride line.  Students are not permitted to be dropped off there.  Students must be dropped off in the Kiss and Ride Line at Door #1.  There was an incident earlier this week with a staff member trying to park when a parent was in a hurry to leave after dropping their student off and took the turn fast and went into her lane, nearly hitting the staff member.  Please exercise patience and come into the school parking lot at Door #1 to drop your student off. We are trying to keep the line moving as fast as we can.  The volume of cars in Kiss and Ride this year is much higher than in previous years.
