1.  From the Principal's Desk

Dear Members of the Chantilly HS Community:

Good afternoon. Over the past week, I’ve had a number of relatives and friends send me congratulations on NICHE naming Chantilly HS the 5th best public high school in the state of Virginia. (for details, go to: https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-public-high-schools/s/virginia/ ) When one considers that there are 386 public schools in VA, this means we are in the top 1-2% of public schools in the state.  Many people have told me that I should be especially proud of our success, and I’m sure that this ranking is clearly a source of pride in our community. As we near the end of the school year, I’ve also been moved by the many college acceptances and scholarships earned by the class of 2022. While I’ve seen many academic successes at Chantilly HS, our students remind me every day that success can take many other forms as well. I have watched students on our athletic teams and performing arts groups experience the success that comes only when someone commits to something bigger than themselves. I’ve worked with students battling major illness and going through the loss of a loved one that remind me that success is more about what’s in your head and heart than anything else. I’ve also worked with a young man this year that is new to our country and learning English; he reminds me that success comes to those that have the courage to change. I’ve also worked with an incredible young lady at CHS that may not be able to walk but who has already traveled farther than many in the journey of life; she reminds me that success is a reflection of character and determination. Perhaps most important, the pandemic has reminded me that student success is also about simply staying strong when times are tough.

While I’m glad to celebrate success as measured by our recent school ranking, I think it’s just as important to recognize that student success can come in many forms that cannot be ranked or quantified.

Have a good weekend,

Scott

Congratulations to Srindhi Yelimati who has been awarded a 2022 corporate-sponsored scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Congratulations to the following students who were selected for the 2022 All-Virginia Band, Chorus, and Orchestra. The students performed with other premier musicians from across the state on April 20-23.

Ethan Chien, Adwait Harkare; Eva Jaber, Allison Oh, Keith Scroggs

Chantilly Jazz had the honor of being the opening act for JMU’s jazz ensemble.  Each year, the JMU Jazz department recognizes one high school ensemble that they believe to be one of the top in the state.  This year, it was our turn!  The kids played FANTASTICALLY and handled themselves like professionals.  The kids had the opportunity to play on a professional caliber stage with a fantastic sound tech. Truly a unique experience that our students won’t forget!

Congratulations to Daniel Y. Lee who got  the First place in the National Fencing tournament.

3.  Recent Student Successes

This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students.  I meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

  • Samuel Cole has truly jumped in and made his mark within the drama department. Not only does he make excellent contributions in class, but he is currently the props master and sound lead for our spring show. Sam goes above and beyond in his creativity, dedication, energy and leadership and we are very grateful!  Ms. Shannon Spicer
  • Naren Darisi has become a daily visitor to the CHS library. He is inquisitive, has a great enthusiasm for reading, and always returns his books early. Polite and friendly, Naren is a pleasure to have in the library. Ms. Chung, Ms. Zemba and Ms. Hackett
  • Judy Ho is an awesome young lady! She has shown great leadership this year. She does well in the classroom as well as on her jobsite. She is always polite. Judy often volunteers to assist in any way that she can and always shows enthusiasm in everything that she does. Way to go, Judy!!  Ms. Leslie Wallace
  • Natalie Shinego has recently displayed her tremendous creativity, talent, and problem-solving abilities creating beautiful props and set pieces for BOTH of our Spring performances. She uses her time effectively in class and then uses her own time to continue to fine tune and come up with new ideas and techniques when an initial attempt doesn't work. Rarely has a student shown such initiative and ability to create high level pieces with minimal assistance and supervision!  Mr. Andy Shaw
  • Aravind Tarigoppula has made great progress in his academics and in his social/emotional skills. He is a very respectful young man and a wonderful student to have in class. He brings a positive attitude to all of his class and is very friendly towards his peers.  Mr. Waleed Mufti
