Message from the Principal

Dr Grove

Dear Wolftrap Families,

We are still celebrating from a wonderful 5K and Fun Run weekend! What an amazing event, planned and executed by Ms. Harney and her committee of capable volunteers. It was wonderful to see so many of you. Thank you for supporting this event, our PTA and Wolftrap. I will be enjoying the scent of applesauce in my hair for days to come. 😊

WELLNESS WEEK: Our clinical staff has planned several wonderful events to celebrate wellness this week. I’m sure your students will be able to catch you up on the activities, but they are also listed below.

4/25: Mindful Monday

4/26: Take care of yourself Tuesday

4/27: Wellness Wednesday

4/28: Take care of others - Kindness

4/29: Fun Friday - Crazy Hair Day (yes! A favorite spirit day has returned!)

OPTIONAL CLASS PLACEMENT PARENT SURVEY EXTENDED ONE DAY (DUE APRIL 26TH): As in the past, we welcome your participation as we plan for class assignments. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning abilities. You may complete an optional survey for the upcoming year at THIS LINK. Due to the many factors we must consider in creating the best possible classroom placement for everyone, requests for specific teachers cannot be honored. Additionally, the form does not ensure that students will or will not be placed with other students. Our teachers and staff will use this information to work on tentative class groupings in June, with classroom assignments finalized in August as the school year approaches. We have extended the deadline by one day, since the Connection is coming out today. Late submissions will not be considered. Thanks for continuing to have trust in our school and working together to create the most successful environment for your child(ren) at Wolftrap each year!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: I know how many of you have been eager to come back into school to volunteer, and we have missed having our parents and family members in school, particularly in the library, due to Covid restrictions. I am happy to announce that we will have library volunteers starting Monday, May 2. Sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050F4EA8AD23A1F94-library

Additionally, classes will be recruiting for end of year celebrations and events. Please look for these opportunities as well, and THANK YOU for your support of our staff.

MOVING OR NEW NEIGHBORS: Please be sure that you notify Ms. Caroline Kamel, Student Information Assistant, if your child will not be returning to Wolftrap next year. Also, if you discover new neighbors moving into our boundaries, please encourage them to call Ms. Kamel as soon as possible to register. Student enrollment is closely monitored all summer and class sizes can be dramatically impacted if families do not contact the school to register until very late in the summer.

ANOTHER PLEA FOR YOUR HELP: I appreciate all that our community does to keep our families safe. Please do not park along Talisman, during arrival and dismissal. Ms. O’Donovan has been patrolling the area, and we ask for your help in this important effort to keep students safe. If you are running late, please take the time to turn into the school and drop your students in the front or to pick them up. We have had at least one close call between cars backing out of the street and students on bicycles. Please help us with this important safety effort.

As the school year is ending, I’m so happy we are going to welcome families for a Strings concert and a Band/Choral concert in the coming weeks. We will also be honoring our PTA Reflections participants. I remain honored to lead and support this wonderful community.

Warmly,

Dr. Maggie Grove
Principal

A Word from Ms. Mallino

I wish to express my deepest gratitude to my Wolftrap students, families, staff and community.  From my undergrad at Temple University and student teaching in north Philadelphia, my 17 year career has been more rewarding than I ever imagined.  Teaching has been and always will be pure magic to me.  I’m thankful to have been with this community for as long as I have.  Once a Wolfie!  Always a Wolfie!

Take care of yourselves and each other,

Ms. Mallino 🐺💚🎨

Wolftrap 5K: Thank you for Making it a Huge Success!

A huge "Thank You!" to everyone who helped make our 17th annual 5k & Fun Run a huge success! The PTA would like to offer a special thank you to Chris Harney for her extraordinary efforts to bring this event back in-person! She and her entire team of volunteers worked tirelessly to make this a success for our school, and we are so grateful.

We would also like to thank all the families who participated, all our sponsors and donors, and all our Slime-Your-Teacher participants. It was wonderful to see our Wolftrap community back celebrating a family event at the school.

Winners of the 5k Silent Auction have been notified at the email they provided at the event. Details for payment and pickup were included in the email, with the first chance to pickup your items being tomorrow morning at Walking Wednesday at the school.

To any participant who registered after the t-shirt deadline, we will be in touch in the next several weeks when those shirts arrive and are ready for distribution. If anyone has photos they are willing to share with the 5k Committee, please email them to: wolftrap5k@gmail.com.

Thank you again to everyone who volunteered, participated, and helped with our event! And a huge congratulations to all our racers!

PTA General Assembly Meeting

If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?
Pilgrims :)

While the PTA's May meeting will be devoid of pilgrims, we would love to see it full with our awesome community's smiling faces! This is our LAST meeting of the year, so don't miss it. There will be updates, budgets, and intrigue! (Ok, probably not much intrigue unless you are really into Robert's Rules of Order.)

Join with Google Meets or join by phone +1 317-978-0166 (PIN: 638010120).

The meeting agenda will be posted here 48 hours prior to the meeting. Please also review the minutes from the last meeting.

Teacher Appreciation Week

We are so excited to treat our amazing Wolftrap teachers, staff (including our fabulous custodial staff) like the stars they are with a week full of Hollywood-themed events from May 2nd through May 6th! Here is what the Teacher Appreciation Week Committee has planned -- and how you can help out:

  • Monday 5/2 - A Hollywood VIP Breakfast featuring Anita's Burritos and Dunkin Donuts coffee and donuts!
  • Tuesday 5/3 - Popping by to Say Thank You with a popcorn bar in the staff lounge - with both sweet and savory toppings!
  • Wednesday 5/4 - Red Carpet Luncheon catered by the Italian Store - with chicken parmesan, baked ziti, gluten-free options, salads, dessert & more! To give our staff more time to enjoy this lunch we are seeking volunteers to take on recess duty this day. Please click here to volunteer!
  • Thursday 5/5 - No Concessions Needed - Our Staff Rocks! We will have an all-you-can-eat candy buffet set up in the staff lounge available all afternoon!
  • Friday 5/6 - The Star Treatment - Every teacher and staff member will receive a gift card and special thanks from the PTA. This is also a great day for students to bring in their own notes, cards and drawings - and additional gift cards are always appreciated!

Finally, we will be decorating the school to show how much we love all the people who take such wonderful care of our children -- and we need your help! All students will receive blank stars in their weekly take home folders. We are asking students to write a note (or drawing) of appreciation for any staff member (or members) and send it back to school by Monday, May 2nd. If your child would like to do more than one star, additional ones will be available in the front office.

Thank you in advance for your help with this!

End-of-Year Teacher & Staff Gifts

The PTA is finalizing collections of End-of-Year gifts for teachers and staff at Wolftrap. As we did at the holiday season, the PTA collects nominal monetary donations, combines them, and distributes cash gifts to staff at the end of the year.

If you would like to make a donation to grade-level teachers, special education faculty, instructional aides, staff, and/or special teachers (i.e., art, music, PE, etc), fill out this form. Gifts are optional and variable by family preference.
