Class Placement Input for 2022-2023 Due May 20

Every Spring, administration begins collaborating with classroom teachers to form next year's grade level classes. We would like you to assist us in determining class placement by sharing your insights about your child using this google form.  The information will go directly to our Administrators and will be shared with teachers during the placement process.

Our staff will use this information to work on tentative class groupings in June, with classroom assignments finalized in early August as the school year approaches. Please submit the electronic form no later than Friday, May 20th.

Thank you for your continued trust in our school and for working together to create the most successful environment for your child(ren) at Spring Hill.

Science Olympiad

We are thrilled to be announcing the formal launch of the Science Olympiad (SO) at Spring Hill elementary school for next year. We had an amazing performance this year and have been an active participating member of the tournament. This year, we plan to start early so the students and teachers can invest more time running a highly successful and competitive program.

For all those who are new to SO, Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of team events in each division (Division B is for 5th and 6th-grade students and middle school; Division C is for high school). Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering, and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation. Through Science Olympiad, students, teachers, parents, school administrators, and business leaders bond together and work toward a shared goal.

If you and your child love science, it is best to start now and join our team. Participation in elementary school SO is critical for middle school selections.

The past and current students rave highly of their experience and learning from this competition. We are gearing up our efforts to offer a seamless and competitive process for our Spring Hill students to join the team for Division B (rising 5th graders and 6th graders) next year.

Please mark your calendars for the upcoming information night (May 25th) and class visits during May to get more information. There will be a selection test in September for final selections.

Updated Isolation Procedures for Students Effective May 1

Since the start of the pandemic, Fairfax County Public Schools has regularly reviewed and adjusted our health and safety guidance in alignment with recommendations from local, state and national health experts.

As a result, FCPS will be changing current isolation procedures for students who have tested positive for COVID-19. Beginning May 1, 2022, your child may return to in-person instruction and activities, including athletics, when your child has met the following criteria:

  • Student has completed at least five days of isolation; AND
  • Student is fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication; AND
  • Student’s symptoms have improved or resolved
  • Student wears a well-fitting mask for 5 additional days (day six through day 10) after the end of the 5-day isolation period, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance

If students are unable to wear a mask when around others, they are to continue to isolate for a full 10 days at home.

Children who are in isolation will continue to have access to our StreamIn/CheckIn during this time.

The new procedure aligns with the timeline recommended by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD). It also follows improving vaccination rates in the Fairfax Health District, as well as a continued community level of low in Fairfax County.

Naglieri Testing Reports

Naglieri Score reports will be mailed home early next week for all students who participated in Naglieri testing this Spring.
