After School Program Survey

Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality. This Survey has been approved by the FCPS Internal Survey Review Committee.  Seal Approval Number 22224.

Over 90% of our students participated in the after-school program this school year, with over 21,000 occurrences of students staying after-school.  Thank you for your continued support of the Middle School After-School Program!

Survey window April 18-22, 2022. All survey responses are due by April 22, 2022.

Car Wash

Odyssey of the Mind

Twain’s Odyssey of the Mind Team is holding a car wash on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The team is raising money to attend the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Iowa in May. Please come out to support the Team and get your vehicle cleaned! All donations are welcomed.

Lost Laptops and Chargers

At the end of the school year all students will be responsible for returning their laptop and charger.  When students lose an FCPS provided laptop or charger they are responsible for replacing them.

Replacement fee for lost computer equipment:

  • Dell 3310 Laptop Computer ($481.00)
  • Dell 3310 Charger ($23)

Replacement fees can be paid either through:

  • MySchoolBucks - https://www.myschoolbucks.com/
  • Check - Bring in a check to Twain’s Main Office made payable to “Twain Middle School”.  Write the Student ID# on the Memo line.

Once a student pays the replacement fee, we will provide them a new charger or laptop. Please do not purchase a replacement charger through outside stores or vendors.

We will not be providing replacement cases when students lose their case.  You can purchase affordable cases through different retail stores.

PTA Updates

Show Your Appreciation to our Gold Medal Twain Staffers

Say thank you to teachers and staff for an amazing year at Twain Middle School during Appreciation Week (May 2 to 6).

The PTA helps to coordinate giving gift cards. You can donate to the PTA online by selecting either the $15 or $25 Staff Appreciation item. The PTA will purchase the gift cards and distribute them on Monday, May 2.

We also need volunteers to staff the appreciation week events or donate “goodies.” Sign up here.

Spring Picture Day

Spring Picture Day is almost here! Twain Spring pictures will be taken on April 26 and 27. Parent volunteers are needed to assist.  Duties include helping check students in, ensuring that students have the correct forms and making sure lines move smoothly. Your help is greatly appreciated! Click here to sign up for a shift to help.

Staff of the Month

Nominate someone you think is deserving!

As a reminder, each month, the administration and the PTA jointly recognize an outstanding teacher or staff member at Twain. The honoree receives an awesome certificate, a $25 gift card and an amazing parking spot close to the building. It’s just a small way to say thank you to our fantastic teachers and staff members who go that extra mile!

Next PTA Meeting

Join us for our next PTA meeting on April 26, from 7 to 8 pm via Zoom. All 2021-22 PTA members (i.e., those who have paid dues) will automatically receive the Zoom link for all PTA meetings.

If you are not a current PTA member, email mtmspresident@gmail.com for the link by 6 pm April 26. Parents of rising 7th graders are welcome.

SOL Test Retake Permission

The Virginia Board of Education allows elementary and middle school students who fail Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year. Retesting is available when a student fails their first attempt with a score of 375-399 (where 400 is passing).

Parent permission is required for any retests in grades 3-8. If you believe that your student would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the SOL test, please complete this permission form. A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your student’s course grade or academic record. For questions please contact our School Testing Coordinator, Zachary Rogstad, at zrogstad@fcps.edu or 703-313-3808.
