Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Spring Hill Families,

It was wonderful to have our first music concert of the school year. Our chorus teachers and students put together a wonderful performance. Next week, we look forward to seeing our families at the band concert.

Third quarter progress reports were sent home this week via the Thursday folder. If you did not get your copy, please contact your child's teacher. You can also access the progress reports on Parent Vue.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to me or any member of our administrative team.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Longfellow Rising 7th Grade Open House

Longfellow is excited welcome our newest Lancers to our Rising 7th Grade Open House on May 19 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm!

Visitors will be able to walk the halls of Longfellow and see how our classrooms are set up, check out the cafeteria, hear from some of our student organizations and more! Longfellow administrators and counselors will be on hand to answer questions. There will not be a large-group presentation; this is an ‘Open House’ style event in which students may come with their family at any time during the evening.

If you have any questions, please contact Katie Madigan, Director of Student Services, at kemadigan@fcps.edu.

Spring iReady Screener

The Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) School Board adopted iReady as an academic universal screener for use with all elementary school students in grades 1 through 6. The iReady assessment includes a reading assessment and a mathematics assessment. The purpose of this screener is to identify students who may have possible gaps in foundational literacy and mathematics skills. Based on iReady results, some students may require an additional assessment to further diagnose any specific learning areas that may need support. An example of an additional diagnostic assessment is the Developmental Reading Assessment 2 (DRA2). The iReady reading test, together with any necessary follow-up diagnostic assessments, also fulfills state testing expectations for primary grade students.

The Spring iReady dates are April 12 - June 9 for grades 3-6 and April 12 - May 20 for grades 1 and 2. Your child’s teacher will share the exact dates of testing with you

Additionally, historical test results are also available in the ParentVUE "Test History" tab. Please note: the Test History tab is currently only accessible via a web browser and not the mobile app

Join a PTO Committee or the Executive Board for 2022-23

As the 4th quarter begins, it is time to start thinking about the next school year. Not just for students, but for the future of our PTO as well. Thanks to the wonderful support of so many volunteers, we were able to successfully bring back many traditional events and programs this year, including Block Party, BINGO Night, After-School Programs and Fun Fair. Would you like to see these and more in the 2022-23 school year? Then consider volunteering for a position on the PTO Executive Board or one of our committees. We are 100% volunteer-driven and welcome all members of the Spring Hill Community to play a part in shaping the agenda of our PTO for the next school year. A variety of opportunities exist for parents to suit your strengths, priorities and time commitments - there's something for everyone! Visit our PTO website to find the position that's right for YOU!
