Art Show

Last night at Chantilly High School, our art teachers, Amanda Martin and Erin Fillers, created a few displays of our very own GBW students’ artwork as part of the Chantilly Pyramid Art Show. Many families came to the event to celebrate our students’ talents and creativity. Great job to our students and art teachers! We are so proud!

2. Earth Day

Earth Day

Tomorrow is Earth Day - Wear Green!

All GBW Students are encourgaged to wear a green shirt on Earth Day.

The first Earth Day was observed on April 22, 1970, when 20 million people across America celebrated by filling their local streets, parks and auditoriums to demand a healthy, sustainable environment.  Since then, Earth Day has been celebrated around the world, by people from all walks of life who are concerned about making a sustainable future for their children.

3. Student Intention Forms

Reminder - Forms due tomorrow!  Please remember to turn in the Student’s Intention for Next School Year Form by Friday, April 22, 2022.  We need your help in letting us know if your child will be returning to GBW next year.  This will greatly help us in projecting our total enrollment for next school year.

4. News from PE

Biking

Did you know students are learning to bike in Physical Education? Biking is a great activity that we encourage students to learn and participate in.  Biking is a great activity for both young and old, and thus is a great way to stay active throughout your lifetime.  It is also a great way to have fun with friends and family.

During Physical Education 4-6 grade students learned the ABC bike check.  Including how to check their bicycles tire (air) pressure, examine their brakes, and check the chain before riding.  We also learned the 2-2-2 helmet safety check and how to wear a helmet properly for their safety.

During our riding we explored different stations that worked on turning, biking hand signals, trail riding (going over bumps), and students had the opportunity to try and ride over our ramp.  The weather couldn’t have been better and we look forward to biking more this year.

5. Rising 7th Graders

Open House at RRMS - April 27

6. Help Us Help Others

Food Drive

Did you know that 5% of the food that feeds children in our area comes from food drives just like ours?  Our food drive is very important in our community and helps to feed children in the area!

As a result, we are very proud of our student participation in the Leadership Team Food Drive, which is taking place from April 11 to May 13.  All donations will be delivered to the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries, a local outreach center that manages a food pantry for the local Fairfax community.  They are incredibly appreciative of the work we are doing and would like GBW to know how much our commitment to servicing the community makes a difference in the lives of others.  Donations must be non-perishable food and no glass.  Our goal is to reach 1000 items!

Food Drive Schedule:

(April 18th-22nd) Week 2: Baking Supplies & Healthy Carbs

(April 25th-29th) Week 3:  Fruits and Vegetables

(May 2nd – 6th)  Week 4:   Healthy Snacks and Drinks

(May 8th-13th)    Week 5:  Baby Items
