We had a wonderful week of Wellness!
During Wellness Week, our students participated in team building with Empower Virginia, Service Dogs, and Coloring activities to help relax and focus.
April 22, 2022
Dear Fairfax Family,
Happy Friday! I’m really hoping this is the last week of the winter weather!
This past week, our Student Services department sponsored Wellness Week. We were reminded of the importance of self-care and shown multiple techniques to stay mentally healthy and strong for our students and each other. All students had opportunities to participate in a number of events this week. Students participated in a variety of activities to include walking the track, yoga, calm coloring, attending a motivational speaker, and of course, the most popular activity, petting therapy dogs! During lunches, the SGA hosted engaging lunch time games and if that wasn’t enough, all 9th and 10th grade students learned about communication and problem solving through team building activities with Empower Adventures. It was a whirlwind of activities, and lots of smiles and laughter shared by all.
The happiness continued throughout the week as we celebrated the girls’ softball and lacrosse teams during their respective senior nights. In addition, a big shout out to Matthew Oman, FHS senior, who earned his Eagle Scout rank with Troop 1887 on April 11, 2022 and will be awarded his Eagle at his Court of Honor on May 15, 2022.
As you check your calendars in the coming weeks, please consider volunteering as an AP Testing proctor. We need you! Please see info in the PTSA area below. Thank you for your help! Have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Best Regards,
Student Services Updates

Seniors: Cap & Gown Info
Graduation packages, including cap and gown orders, will be available for distribution at the end of April during all lunches. If you or your student did not purchase a cap and gown directly through Jostens.com, don’t stress! FHS placed a large order of extras to ensure every student has a cap and gown available to them on graduation day. These extras will be available for students to purchase during distribution week for the cost of $31.
April is the Month of the Military Child
April is the Month of the Military Child! For the month of April, we are celebrating our military-connected children and their service as part of a military family. Children of military members often experience frequent moves and numerous deployments by their parents during their K-12 educational years. Approximately 2 million military children have experienced parental deployment since 9/11 nationwide. Military families also typically move three times more often than civilian families. Children of military members also live with the special challenge and understanding that their parents are frequently required to perform in high-risk situations, often for lengthy periods of time, far from home. We are excited at FHS to provide an opportunity to recognize and honor the service of over 100 military-connected children, both students, and staff this month.
See below for our Spirit Days throughout the month:
Monday (4/11), Camo Day
Friday (4/15), USA out (Red, White & Blue Day)
Monday (4/18), Pajama Day (We sleep soundly because of those who protect our nation)
Wednesday (4/20), Purple Up! Day (Purple indicates support for all branches of the military: Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard)
Friday (4/29), Red Day (Remember Everyone Deployed)
We want to recognize all of our military children at Fairfax High School and encourage you to complete this form if you would like your student recognized during the month. Please fill out the form by April 18th so we can recognize you! Contact Jenny Payne for more info at japayne2@fcps.edu.
FHS Leadership will be selling Purple Up! t-shirts for $10 during school lunches on April 18 and 19.
FCPS is hosting a series of events during the week of April 18-22 including school board recognition on April 20th, mini-documentaries of military kids in the district, and district-wide spirit days. https://www.fcps.edu/node/45557

FX Players Spring Musical: Into the Woods
Fairfax High School is proud to present Into the Woods.
James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Parent Volunteers Needed May 2-17
FHS needs parent volunteers for proctoring duties during the AP exams being administered between May 2 and May 17. We have many opportunities available to give our students a great exam session. We ask that proctors stay for the entire shift. If you can only stay part of the time but still want to help, please email Testing Coordinator Chrystal Ueltschi at cmueltschi@fcps.edu with your availability. Please note you cannot proctor an AP exam your student is scheduled to take, and you cannot be in the same room with any family member.
Please sign up here: AP Testing Proctor Sign-up.
FCPS substitutes are also needed to be full day paid proctors. Anyone interested who is already on FCPS payroll should contact Chrystal Ueltschi at cmueltschi@fcps.edu. Thank you!
