PurpleUp

Purple Up Day is on April 20th!

Purple represents the blending of the colors of the five branches of our armed forces. In Virginia, we are proud to be home to Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, National Guard and Reserve families.

Here at Forestville Elementary, we want to acknowledge all of our military families and thank you for your service!

Please wear purple on Wednesday, April 20th to show your support for our military families.

Yearbook

YEARBOOK ORDERING

Please visit https://www.yearbookordercenter.com and put in our school code: 21994 (or you can search by our school name).

We have a couple of different options this year. Our soft-cover yearbook is priced at $20 and our hard-cover yearbook is priced at $30. The content will be completely the same, only the cover material differs. Please note that there is a minimum order we need to meet for the hard-cover yearbooks and, if it is not met, those who ordered them will receive the soft-cover book and the difference will be refunded by the PTA.

You also have the option of personalizing your yearbook with your child's name on the cover (lower right corner) for an additional fee. This works for both soft-cover and hard-cover types.

We are offering a discount to those who order early! The last day to order a yearbook at full price is Friday, April 22nd. The yearbook will be shipped directly to the school (unfortunately, cannot be shipped to your house) in early June.

Please email community.fespta@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Free Online Tutoring Services for All Students Coming Soon!

All FCPS students will soon have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost. Funds to support Tutor.com for school year 2022-23 and 2023-24 will come from an ESSER III Unfinished Learning Grant.

Students can connect online any time, and in most subjects for as long as they need. Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format through voice or text chat. Tutors will focus on developing student’s strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during, or after school hours and/or on weekends through a link in Schoology.

All tutors must pass a rigorous application process including an extensive background check. No personal information is shared between a student and tutor. All sessions are recorded and transcripts are available for review by teachers and parents/guardians.

Students will automatically have access to the Tutor.com tutoring service unless a parent/guardian submits an opt-out request. All FCPS families will soon receive an email including an online tutoring services notice and opt-out information. Additionally, a hard copy form will be sent home with every student.

For additional information, visit our online tutoring services website.

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has new tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. Find out more and sign up for these services on our website.
