This month brings the opportunity to recognize Arab American culture and continue our inclusive practices by affirming those with autism.
We invite all staff and students to wear blue on Wednesday, April 20 to recognize Autism Acceptance Month. Our news show will highlight facts about both Autism Acceptance and Arab American Heritage.
Dear Woodburn Families,
It was wonderful to be back together this week. We jumped right back into learning and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
Next Thursday, April 21, we will be hosting a combined PTA and community meeting. We want to engage as a school community in a dialogue about bullying and behavior. We value your input and want to share thinking around these topics and identify next steps we can take together.
Together We Grow,
Katy and Bridget

We will be hosting an assembly next week with Dr. Recess! He has worked with and visited numerous schools around FCPS and has received rave reviews. Dr. Recess’ program is based off of four main concepts which he will teach in a 45 minute assembly and then demonstrate throughout the day at recess. Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is fast approaching. Each year we collect gift cards from families to raffle off to our staff. Our goal is to collect one gift card per teacher. We hope you might consider donating a gift card to be raffled off during this special week.
Gift cards can be brought to the main office. Please put them in an envelope with your child's name as we want to extend our thanks to all who donate. Thank you in advance.
2022-2023 Parent Input for Class Placement
We are starting to work on our plans for the 2022-2023 school year! Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions listed below. We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.
Completion of this form is optional. If you would like to provide input, you may use this online form; print, complete and email to Katy Richman (kjrichman@fcps.edu); or a hard copy may be sent to the office by May 20, 2022. This is a hard deadline. Please know that input from forms turned in over the summer are difficult to honor since the grouping process has already started.

Online Tutoring Services Update
FCPS is pleased to announce that students now have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost to families. Tutor.com is available 24/7, through online voice or text chat, and in your student’s preferred language. Student participation is optional and parents/guardians can opt their students out of accessing the service. You can learn more about Tutor.com on the Tutor.com Online Tutoring Services website.
Students will be able to access Tutor.com via a link in Schoology. Additional information about how to log in and access a tutor is provided to families via the following instructional videos:
elementary video and secondary video. Questions not answered in the posted resources may be sent to onlinetutoring@fcps.edu.
This new service will help many Woodburn students complete assignments, better understand classroom lessons, and be successful.
Discontinuation of COVID Testing - April 22
To limit the spread of COVID-19 and to keep schools open safely, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has been providing a COVID-19 screening and diagnostic testing program to students and staff as part of its layered prevention strategies.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the community level for Fairfax County is currently classified as low; this classification has continued for the past month. In addition, Fairfax Health District COVID-19 Vaccination Status indicates that more than 70% of all Fairfax Health Districts residents have been fully vaccinated (defined by receiving two of a two-dose vaccine or one of a single-dose vaccine). More than 80% of residents have received one COVID-19 vaccine dose. Vaccination rates by age group indicates that more than 50% of students ages 5-11 and more than 90% of students ages 12-17 have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19 Vaccinations are free and available at various locations in our community.
Based on these metrics and CDC guidance, FCPS will discontinue the following prevention strategies on April 22, 2022:
If students or employees have symptoms and need to get tested, the following options are available:
-
COVID-19 Testing is available at various sites throughout Fairfax County and the state.
-
At-Home Test Kits - Students leaving the school CARE Room with symptoms of illness are provided an at-home test kit.
-
Test-To-Stay Program - In partnership with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), FCPS is providing access to the Test-To-Stay program for students who have been identified as a close contact when an outbreak has been declared. This program is available to any student who meets eligibility criteria and whose parent/legal guardian has provided consent for their participation.
While we are encouraged by the continued decline in COVID-19 cases in our community, we are also committed to keeping our schools safe for all to learn and work in person. Please continue to do your part to maintain a healthy learning environment by using layered prevention strategies including hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, monitoring for illness, and staying home when sick. Employees should still report positive test results to their supervisor.
Thank you for your patience as we navigate through the late stages of the pandemic together.

Health & Safety Reminders
Vaccination Status
You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status.
If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Garcia, our student registrar in the main office.
Monitoring Your Child's Health
Please continue to you use the FCPS health screening questionnaire to monitor your child's health each day. This will support our efforts to keep all students and staff as safe as possible. If your child has Covid-like symptoms at school, you will be asked to pick them up immediately.
Please use the health screening questionnaire to screen your child for Covid-19 symptoms before sending them to school each day.
Where to Find a Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine
FCPS is encouraging all parents whose children are eligible to get vaccinated. We know that vaccination is the way out of this pandemic, and we are asking you to help us continue to make our schools as safe as they possibly can be.
The Fairfax County Health Department’s webpage has resources for finding and scheduling a vaccine appointment. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities is available on the FCPS website.
