Message from the Principal

Dr Grove

Dear Wolftrap Families,

Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope this message finds you rested and refreshed and ready to press on to the end of the school year! My Connection message on March 28th did not give me an opportunity to say how AMAZING the talent show acts were! I am going to take some space here to congratulate all students (and staff!) who shared their talents with us in the virtual show. I thoroughly enjoyed watching everyone. Additionally, thank you to our parents who organized this event and put the video together. What fun!

OPTIONAL CLASS PLACEMENT PARENT SURVEY (DUE APRIL 25TH): As in the past, we welcome your participation as we plan for class assignments. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning abilities. You may complete an optional survey for the upcoming year at THIS LINK. Due to the many factors we must consider in creating the best possible classroom placement for everyone, requests for specific teachers cannot be honored. Additionally, the from does not ensure that students will or will not be placed with other students. Our teachers and staff will use this information to work on tentative class groupings in June, with classroom assignments finalized in August as the school year approaches. Please submit the electronic form no later than April 25th, 2022. Late submissions will not be considered. Thanks for continuing to have trust in our school and working together to create the most successful environment for your child(ren) at Wolftrap each year!

SAFETY REMINDERS: Our administrative team has had some time to reflect following our school evacuation earlier this year. I wanted to reach out with some important reminders about how these situations are handled by the school, and your role in supporting a safe school environment during emergency situations. FCPS has standard safety procedures that all schools practice regularly in order to prepare for emergencies. Our first priority is always to respond to the situation at hand. In the case of an evacuation, we must get students and staff to safety first. We will send an email communication to all of you through our eNotify system, with the most accurate information that we have at the time, as soon as we are able. We must focus on the safety of students and staff first, and we ask for your trust and patience during these times.

This also means that during an emergency situation, such as an evacuation, staff will be attending to safety measures and may not be able to release students right away. We all have the same goal of keeping our students safe and making sure that they get back to their families as soon as possible, but that may not always be right away. There are also times when we may need to provide an alternative location for student pickup.

You will receive an email to the address listed on your child’s emergency information card any time that there is a situation at school that will impact your ability to drop off or pick up your child. Please wait for that email with further instructions before coming to the school. Coming to the school before this information is provided, and asking staff to release your child early, takes them away from their responsibilities and can actually prolong the process. If you have any additional questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out.

PINE TREE PRESERVATION:  Please be mindful of allowing students to climb the pine trees that are on the side of the Wolftrap property. Students have been observed bouncing on the bottom limbs, and the result is some damage to the branches. Also, please be mindful of allowing students to climb up in the trees. While we love having our students commune with nature, students are making it quite far up from the ground. We do want to make sure children are being supervised by their parents during and after dismissal. If your students are staying on campus beyond 3:20pm, they must be supervised by a parent. We continue to take care in respecting our neighbors and their yards, as well. Thank you!

Warmly,

Dr. Maggie Grove
Principal

Many hands make light work! We are actively planning programs for the 2022-2023 school year. Currently, we do not have enough parent volunteers to bring back the Fall After-School Programs for our students. If you enjoy these programs and would like to see them return in the Fall, please consider volunteering your time this May and June on the After-School Program committee to help make this happen! Email president@wolftrappta.org for more information.

Today is the final day to order a Yearbook for your student. Please note that all students in grades K-6 are included in the book, so make sure to order one for your student if you would like them to have this keepsake. We also hope you register for our annual 5k and 1-mile Fun Run. We are thrilled to bring this event back in-person, and we can't wait to see our Wolftrap families together enjoying community and all the fun activities of that morning. Finally, don't forget to join us this Thursday morning (4/14) at 8:45am for our April PTA meeting.

Teacher Appreciation: 5th Grade Stock the Pantry

Our wonderful teachers and school staff have been working tirelessly to keep our school running and our children safe. To recognize their ongoing efforts, the teacher appreciation committee will be organizing a monthly event for all teachers and staff. Each month will be sponsored by a different grade level.

This month, the 5th grade families will be contributing to stock the pantry for the teachers. To make this easy on parents, we are asking parents of 5th graders  to contribute $5-10 (or whatever they feel comfortable with) via Venmo to @michelle-scalise-5 or @wrosner by April 22nd. If you have any questions or would like to contribute in another way, please contact mzscalise@gmail.com or wendy.l.rosner@gmail.com.  Thank you!

Walking Wednesdays

Walking Wednesday at Wolftrap Elementary School

Encourage your child to walk or bike to school on Wednesdays. Help your child’s grade compete for the Golden Sneaker Award and enjoy a cup of coffee courtesy of Caffe Amouri!

Outdoor Lunch Volunteers Needed

PTA Volunteers

Nicer weather is upon us, which means students will have more regular opportunities to eat lunch in the tent.

We need volunteers to assist our staff with supervising lunch and cleaning tables in the tent.

Sign up here to volunteer today, and note that students don't eat outside when it is freezing, raining, or high winds.
