Glasgow Community Gazette - March 27

Powell

Greetings!

Greetings! This weekend I took the kids to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. It has been a while since I have been, but I wanted them to go, as well.

A school highlight was Brooke Ehmann-Jones, an 8th grader at Glasgow, tied for second place at the Thomas Jefferson Invitational Science Fair for her project titled: "Attention Span of Adolescents When Faced With The Distraction of Technology”. We are very proud of her hard work and research skills!

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Anne Durgavich as Special Education Department Chair. Dr. Barnes will remain as the administrator overseeing the Special Education Department, however, Ms. Durgavich will manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the department starting in the 2022/23 school year.  Ms. Durgavich has been a special education teacher with Glasgow for 5 years teaching self-contained English before becoming the lead reading teacher.  Prior to Glasgow, Ms. Durgavich worked at Marshall Road Elementary School’s CSS site as an ED teacher, as well as at Cunningham Park Elementary as an LD teacher.

Also, FCPS’ Middle School Grade Level Configuration Survey is now open! As mentioned in previous communications, this survey is an opportunity for you to provide input on the grade level arrangement at Glasgow, Holmes, and Poe Middle Schools, which house students in grades 6-8. This is a different set-up from all other FCPS middle schools, which have a grade 7-8 arrangement.

The survey is for:

  • Parents/caregivers of students who currently attend Glasgow, Holmes, and Poe Middle Schools.
  • Parents/caregivers of elementary students who feed into those three middle schools.
  • A small number of elementary parents/caregivers whose children attend specialized programs at a school other than their base school, that will likely attend Glasgow, Holmes, or Poe.

Your feedback is very important! Please check your email for the survey link and let your voice be heard.

For more information, visit FCPS’ Middle School Grade Configuration webpage. If you missed the PTA Meeting from March 22, please view the recording here. As always, please let our team know how we can support you.

Humbly,

Victor L. Powell, Principal

YEARBOOK PICTURES NEEDED:  Attention Glasgow Community.  The Yearbook crew could really use your help.  We are in desperate need of photos for the yearbook.  It is our goal to represent EVERY single student from Glasgow in our book, The Pride.  We are lacking a great number of people and student populations.  We would absolutely love more candid pictures, of students having fun and being themselves.  Examples of this could be sporting events, competitions, friends playing in the back yard or at a get together.   If you can snag some pictures of your student AND their friends without masks,  that is even better.  Please take some pictures of your students and submit them using this form.  Please be sure to include your email, names of students, and what is happening in the pictures to ensure accuracy.  Thank you so very much for your help.   If you have any questions, please email our yearbook adviser,  Rushel Grillo: rngrillo1@fcps.edu.  Thank you.
