A Message from Mrs. Aspuria

Dear Ravensworth Families,

I am excited to share a new resource that will soon be available to all Ravensworth students to support learning. All FCPS students will have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost.

Students can connect online any time, and in most subjects for as long as they need. Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format through voice or text chat. Tutors will focus on developing students’ strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during, or after school hours and/or on weekends through a link in Schoology.

All tutors must pass a rigorous application process including an extensive background check. No personal information is shared between a student and tutor. All sessions are recorded and transcripts are available for review by teachers and parents/guardians.

Students will automatically have access to the Tutor.com tutoring service unless a parent/guardian submits an opt-out request. An email including the online tutoring services notice and opt-out information was sent on March 22nd. Additionally, a hard copy form will be sent home by mail.

For additional information, see below or visit our online tutoring services website. As always, please contact us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Erika Aspuria

Principal

Arrival and Dismissal

Several of our neighbors have reached out about our families blocking their driveways with their cars during arrival and dismissal.  Please be mindful of where you park when coming to the school.  The safest way to drop off and pick up your child from school is through our Kiss and Ride.  Thank you for your support.

Lost and Found

lf

At the end of each quarter items from Ravensworth Los and Found are donated to charity. Prior to donation, parents and guardians may check Lost and Found for items belonging to their children. This quarter’s Lost and Found items will be made available for parents and guardians (only) in front of the school during the week of March 28 from 7:45 am and 4:30 pm. Items not claimed by March 31st will be sent to donation.

Online Tutoring Services Notice & Opt-Out Form

onl

By mid-April, FCPS students will have unlimited access to 24/7, on-demand, online tutoring support services through Tutor.com. Student participation in online (voice and/or text chat) tutoring services is optional. Students will have access to Tutor.com unless parents submit an opt-out form request via ParentVUE or a hard copy signed and returned to schools. You will receive this information in your child’s Wednesday folder.  Please submit an opt-out form via ParentVUE or return hard copy opt-out forms to your child’s teacher by April 1st.

Kindergarten Registration for SY2022-23

k

We are starting to prepare for the 2022-23 academic year. Children who will be five (5) years old on or before September 30, 2022, are eligible to attend kindergarten next fall. If you have a child who will attend kindergarten at Ravensworth next school year, and you have not already been in contact with our registrar, Teresa Dunbar, please complete this survey and return it to the school via email to: tldunbar1@fcps.edu

Please spread the word to your neighbors who don’t already have a child at Ravensworth. Feel free to pass this form along or have neighbors with rising kindergarteners call the office at 703-426-3600 to be added to our kindergarten mailing list. Registration information will be provided to all families who complete and return this survey. If preferred, you may request a mailed packet of registration forms by calling the office or emailing our registrar.

A child’s record of immunization, physical examination (within 12 months prior to entering kindergarten), proof of residency, and original birth certificate must be submitted when registering the child.  For more information regarding kindergarten registration, you may visit the Fairfax County Public Schools’ website at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/general-registration-requirements

The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2022-2023 school year. We thank you in advance for returning the form no later than March 31, 2022.

A virtual Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for March 29th from 7:00 to 8:00pm on Zoom. On March 30th, an in person option will take place in the cafeteria from 6:45 to 8:00pm. Both presentations will be the same.

Positivity Project

Prudence means that you plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices. Prudence is the ability to do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason. It’s a future-oriented way of thinking that helps a person set goals, make plans, and have the discipline to accomplish them. It is cognitive – more a strength of the head than of the heart.

Prudence is not simply being excessively cautious or self-restrained. And, while it is often exemplified through individual financial savings, prudence applies to all parts of life. Philosophers have discussed the strength for millennia. Aristotle wrote about phronesis or “practical wisdom” which allows us to properly use other character strengths. And, according to Dr. Chris Peterson, the Christian theologian Thomas Aquinas “named prudence as the principle wisdom, with bravery subordinate to it. It is prudence that provides the wisdom to assess danger; bravery then allows reason to prevail despite fear.”
