Dear Bonnie Brae School Community,
What a great spirit day today! It was awesome to see our Scottie community show their spirit with their retro/decades day gear! Check out the video below for some highlights from the day!
On Thursday we show our support for Autism Awareness and encourage students and staff to wear blue or their Bonnie Brae Autism Awareness shirt. For families and students who ordered Bonnie Brae Autism Awareness shirts, they will be distributed to students this week. On Fridays throughout the month of April we will encourage our Scottie community to wear blue or their Bonnie Brae Autism Awareness shirt.
We can't wait to meet our newest Scotties this week during kindergarten orientation, which takes place on Wednesday March 30th and Thursday March 31st. Details (included below) were recently sent out to registered participants. If you registered and did not receive a link, please reach out to our office at 703-321-3900.

 Arrival & Dismissal Safety
The safety of our students, parents, and staff continues to be our top priority. Please see below for reminders of important safety procedures implemented here at Bonnie Brae during arrival and dismissal.
BUS LOOP
- In order for our buses to arrive and exit in a timely manner (to service the entire county), the bus loop needs to be clear of all personal vehicles at the following times:
- 8:10-8:45 am
- 3:00-3:45 pm
KISS & RIDE
- Speed Limit: <5 MPH
- Any students arriving by car must utilize the Kiss & Ride loop (or park in a designated parking space along Sideburn Road, with an adult walking their child to the front entrance)
- Yield to all pedestrians in the Kiss & Ride/parking lot entrance and be on the lookout for staff members helping students / parents cross the entry way
- When waiting to turn into Kiss & Ride, keep the entry and exit lanes clear of vehicles so students can cross safely with staff assistance
- When departing the Kiss & Ride loop, please only turn right onto Sideburn Road
- Only utilize parking along Sideburn Road that is designated for parking. “Double parking” is not permitted by Fairfax County and is a safety hazard to all arriving/departing students and families.
- U-Turns on Sideburn Road are prohibited by Fairfax County
WALKERS
- Please continue to use the sidewalks to ensure safety of staff, students, community, and bus drivers
- Students and families should cross Sideburn Road at the designated crosswalk by Nellie White Ln.

 April 19: Spring Picture Day
Spring Picture Day on April 19 will include both Class and Individual Photographs. More information can be found on our Spring Picture Day Website page. Order forms will be sent home in a forthcoming Tuesday Folder.
Volunteers Needed for Spring Picture Day
Spring picture Day is Tuesday, April 19 and we are in need of 3-5 parent volunteers! Volunteers will help organize classes when they arrive to the gym, hand out picture day portrait cards, and help the day run smoothly. Lifetouch will be onsite from 8:30-3:00 pm. Please indicate your interest and availability using this Spring Picture Day Volunteer form. Following, someone will contact you to confirm your time. Thank you in advance!
Family Curriculum Night
Bonnie Brae is thrilled to host an in-person Family Curriculum Night, and we invite all BBES families to join us for this event!
When: Thursday, April 28th from 6:00pm -7:00pm
Where: Bonnie Brae Elementary School
Why: Partner with staff to learn ways to support our students’ literacy, math, and wellness development!
For our planning purposes, please register to attend by filling out the Family Curriculum Night Interest Form. Be on the lookout for more details soon. We look forward to seeing everyone in-person and reconnecting with our community. Hope to see you there!
Online Tutoring Support
Available soon, FCPS students will have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost.
Students can connect online any time, and in most subjects for as long as they need. Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format through voice or text chat. Tutors will focus on developing students’ strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during, or after school hours and/or on weekends through a link in Schoology.
All tutors must pass a rigorous application process including an extensive background check. No personal information is shared between a student and tutor. All sessions are recorded and transcripts are available for review by teachers and parents/guardians.
Students will automatically have access to the Tutor.com tutoring service unless a parent/guardian submits an opt-out request. A forthcoming email will include the online tutoring services notice and opt-out information. Additionally, a hard copy form will be sent home with every student.
For additional information, visit our online tutoring services website.
Save the Date! SOL Test Dates for Grades 3-6
SOL testing for Grades 3-6 will occur in May. The dates for each assessment are available on the Bonnie Brae Website. If you have questions about testing please contact Scott Hawk, Assistant Principal.
BBES Lunch Volunteer Opportunity
We are seeking parent volunteers to support our lunch hours. Lunch starts at 10:45am and ends at 1:30pm. As the weather gets nicer we are looking forward to having some of our volunteers support at some of our outdoor learning spaces as well.
If you are interested in supporting any day(s) of the week on a consistent basis during any portion of our lunch block, please contact Kathy Rials, kerials@fcps.edu.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to support our students and to continue encouraging safety protocols.
Cafeteria Host at BBES
Bonnie Brae is currently in search of a Cafeteria Host. Our Cafeteria Host helps our community of students by welcoming them into the cafeteria, helping our younger students open lunch items, and ensure that our cafeteria runs safely and smoothly.
Interested applicants should email Kathy Rials, kerials@fcps.edu to apply.
