Principal's Message

Dear Mustang Community-

Spring is certainly in the air at South County Middle School! The change in the season has brought increased energy to the students. Please continue to talk to your students about the importance exhibiting the HORSE traits (Honesty, Ownership, Respect, Service and Effort) at all times. We are all in this together and want to have a positive end to the school year.

Our Family Engagement Survey was sent to your email the afternoon of Sunday, March 13. Please participate, if you have not already done so! Your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS’ practices to best support our students. Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and our school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior. FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey, and it will be available in eight languages. For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage. Your voice matters!

This week, we also received great news! Thirteen Mustang singers earned All-State Choir, with one additional student selected as 1st Alternate. This choir is made up of the top 150 voices in the state of Virginia and the highest honor for a middle school. Their Director, Sherlee Glomb will serve as the guest conductor at the performance in Virginia Beach in April. Congrats to:

  • Kara Bailey
  • Sho Davis
  • Bryn Jackson

Family Engagement Survey

Please make sure to check your email on March 13th for the survey from K12Insight,  with subject line: FCPS Family Engagement Survey.  FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey which will be open March 13 - April 3. It will be available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Korean, Farsi, Urdu, and Vietnamese. All responses will be confidential.

FCPS will launch a Family Engagement Survey on March 13, to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our school community. By participating in the Family Engagement Survey, parents/caregivers are making their voices heard around important topics impacting their students’ success.

If you cannot access the link in the email ask the front office staff of your child's school for a paper survey. They can complete it right there on the spot or take it home and return it during the survey window or you can use one of the school computers. Our front office staff will be happy to show you an available computer for you to complete the survey electronically.
