Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Families,

I am excited to share a new resource that will soon be available to all Spring Hill students to support learning. All FCPS students will have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost.

Students can connect online any time, and in most subjects for as long as they need. Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format through voice or text chat. Tutors will focus on developing students’ strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during, or after school hours and/or on weekends through a link in Schoology.

All tutors must pass a rigorous application process including an extensive background check. No personal information is shared between a student and tutor. All sessions are recorded and transcripts are available for review by teachers and parents/guardians.

Students will automatically have access to the Tutor.com tutoring service unless a parent/guardian submits an opt-out request. Watch for an email soon that will include the online tutoring services notice and opt-out information. Additionally, a hard copy form will be sent home with every student.

For additional information, visit our online tutoring services website.  As always, please contact us if you have any questions.

     Have a wonderful weekend!

Spring Hill Website Community Feedback

Spring Hill is working on improving our website to better reflect our school and community goals and to better assist families with accessing important information.  We wanted to reach out to our community to provide feedback on the current website and any new suggestions for future improvements.  Please share your thoughts by visiting this link: https://bit.ly/SHESWebsiteSurvey.  We appreciate your input!

Library Books

Do you have a stack of library books sitting at home waiting to be returned? Please send them in this week so that other students have the opportunity to check them out for Spring Break. We will be sending overdue notices home on Thursday, March 24 to help with your search. Thank you in advance for helping us get more books into students' hands!

The program will finish at 3:00 p.m. (At this time, we are anticipating that we will be able to have this event in-person. We will communicate further if there are any changes related.)

Please register by going to this link

At the beginning of the meeting, rising kindergarteners will be taken to a kindergarten classroom to do some activities with the kindergarten teachers. Parents will be staying in the cafeteria to continue the meeting with the principal and other Spring Hill staff.

Registration Paperwork - We encourage parents to complete registration paperwork prior to the event and bring it with them to drop off.  You are welcome to contact our registrar, Ms. Young-Joo Kim, with any questions prior to the event. You may also reach our wonderful front office staff at 703-506-3400.

Naglieri Testing (1st Grade Students)

The online version of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test Third Edition (NNAT3) will be administered to all first graders on March 21st or March 22nd. The official testing letter was sent home in February.

Positivity Project

Next week is a make-up week. This means that your child’s teacher will be reflecting and remembering traits that we have covered so far this year.  These types of weeks give us time to reflect on what we have learned.  The mission of the Positivity Project is to empower us to build positive relationships by understand and appreciating the 24 character strengths in us all.  Taking time to let it soak in and then reflecting is an excellent way for kids and adults to really be able to start applying what they’ve learned into their lives.

Cafeteria Volunteers (1st - 6th Grade Parents)

If you would like to volunteer during lunch, please use this link to sign up. We have 2 slots per lunch session.

From the Healthy Minds Blog: Assisting Children in Developing a Healthy Self-Esteem

Self-esteem and self-concept gradually develop over time, beginning at a very young age. As children grow and develop, they begin to examine their abilities, become more independent, and assimilate information and feedback from others. Self-esteem can be defined as the evaluation of self, and it includes feelings of overall happiness and satisfaction, as well as how important one feels. Support from others is deemed important in children's development of a healthy self-esteem.

The Healthy Minds Blog has some tips and strategies that parents and teachers can implement to build self-esteem and prevent a low self-concept in children.
