Understanding the SOLs Parent Information Night- TONIGHT

Each year our students in grades 3-6 take an end of year assessment called the Standards of Learning Assessment or SOLs. Tonight we will be a brief overview of what the assessment is about, how it impacts your student, and a few strategies that you can use at home to help your child get ready to show what they know.

On Wednesday, March 16th, from 6PM-7PM, we encourage you to join one of our excellent teachers, Veronica Chambers, as she helps families bring these strategies into the home. We will also record this event if you are not able to attend tonight.

This will be a virtual event:

Topic: Understanding SOL for Parents

Your Feedback Is Important

This spring, all Pine Spring parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations, and professionalism.

Understanding that this has been another unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

The questionnaire will be collected online between March 7 and March 18. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

Lockdown Drill

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year. We also practice lockdown drills.

A new Virginia Law (22.1-137.2) requires schools to notify parents at least 24 hours before a school practices a lockdown drill. However, we are not required to share the exact date and time of the drill. We are required to practice lockdown drills two times a year. FCPS lockdown drills do not include any type of active shooter scenario training, they are instruction and classroom based.

We conducted our second lockdown drill at our school today. All students were required to participate. Students did a wonderful job showing that they were prepared for this type of situation.

Additional information on our lockdown drill program to include parent tips and FAQs can be found on the Emergency Planning and Crisis Response web page.

Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for your help to keep our school safe.

If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Ganci, Assistant Principal.

Family Engagement Survey

Our Family Engagement Survey was emailed to you on Sunday, March 13. Please participate—your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS’ practices to best support our students.

Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and your school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.

FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey, and it will be available in eight languages. For more information, please watch this short video from Superintendent Brabrand and visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage

Kindergarten Registration

Do you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th? Please start your registration now. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. These are the 5 steps you need to take to register your child. If you have questions regarding kindergarten registration, please reach out to Ms. Breeden or call our main office at (571) 226-4400.

Kindergarten Orientation

On April 1st, from 9:00-10:00 we are excited to welcome in our rising kindergarten students for the Kindergarten Orientation! If your child is turning 5 years old on or before September 30, 2022 please sign-up for the orientation using the links below. This will be your opportunity to learn about a day in the life of a Bobcat and all of the wonderful things your child will learn each day! Please contact Leslye Breeden at 571-226-4400 for registration information.

Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status. The only exception is student-athletes, who are required to share their vaccination status to participate in their sport or activity.

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Breeden, our student registrar in the main office.

Pine Spring PAWS Awards

Has someone at Pine Spring done something above and beyond? There are two great ways to share our team's impact on you, your child, or our community. You can submit a Pine Spring PAWS Award or an  FCPS Cares. Both are great ways to let our team know that they are making a difference for you and your child.
