Good Afternoon Parents and Families:

What unusual  weather conditions we have this weekend, as I know many of us are anticipating sustained warmer temperatures. Hope you each are staying safe, healthy and warm. It is hard to believe this weekend marks two years when our lives were forever changed as a result of  Covid-19. While I know we continue to encounter challenges, I want to thank each of you for your continued support as we work together to provide meaningful and engaging experiences for our students, staff and families.

It was another wonderful week at Stone, as we had our Week of Awesome spirit week in anticipation of our basketball games vs. Liberty Middle School. What an amazing Friday it was with our first pep rally of the year, coordinated and executed entirely by our student leadership classes. They did an outstanding job putting on two entertaining pep rallies for our students and staff. You can read more about it in the featured story below.

The pep rally got everyone hyped for the basketball games yesterday evening, where all three of our Stone basketball teams were victorious against Liberty. Congratulations to our players and coaches. While it is wonderful each of our teams came out on top, I am equally, if not more, proud of the incredible positive energy, excitement and pure joy as a result of the pep rally and basketball game. It was great to see both Centreville communities come together again as we reignited the Stone vs. Liberty series…We look forward to two weeks from now when we head over to Liberty.  Thank you so much to all who made this evening such a success.

Our performing arts program is preparing for their annual assessments. I am so proud each ensemble had successful performances the last two weeks. While our orchestra assessment was postponed due to weather today, I eagerly await and wish all three programs (band, choral, and orchestra) the best of luck in their upcoming performances.

I look forward to many more moments of joy, excitement and student success as we close out the month of March and the 3rd quarter. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly (mcnorris@fcps.edu) if you have  questions, concerns or feedback.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,

Meredith Norris
Principal
Stone Middle School

social

Happy National School Social Worker Week to our Social Worker, Amy Young.  Did you know social work began in U.S. schools over 110 years ago by visiting teachers? School social workers are professionals within the social work field that work with teachers, parents, and school administrators. They help students deal with mental health and behavioral challenges and provide academic and classroom support. They also help in developing education policies, work with crisis interventions, and identify and report child neglect and abuse. School social workers mainly work in primary and secondary schools.  Thank you, Amy, for all of your hard work and dedication to the Stone community!

You can click on a link and pay this fee on My School Bucks, or you can send in cash or check to your teacher.  These fees cover supplies needed for these classes. You may also have received an email notification if your child was previously enrolled, and you have a class fee that was not paid at the time.  This email will come to the email address on your parent SIS account.

Family Engagement Survey
On Sunday, March 13, in the afternoon, you will receive an email from Fairfax County Public Schools via K12 Insight regarding FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey. Your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve our practices to best support our students.

Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and your school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, and better social skills and behavior.

FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey. It will be available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic, Chinese, Urdu, Farsi, and Amharic. Please visit our Family Engagement Survey webpage for more information and look for the survey in your inbox on March 13. Your voice matters!

Career Pathways Study
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has partnered with FourPoint Education Partners, a national consultancy based in Maryland, to assess our current pathway elective courses and career pathway programs. Our middle and high school students will be receiving an email inviting them to participate in a brief survey.  The email will be sent to their school email address and will be coming from Naviance with a subject titled: Student Survey Pathways Study.  Participation in the survey is optional.  Students had the opportunity to complete this survey during Panther Block (period 4) yesterday.

In addition, middle and high school parents will have an opportunity to provide feedback.  More information will follow soon.  If you have any questions, please contact Tami Brumett, Director of Student Services, at TLBrumett@fcps.edu
