WHAT IS LOVE OF LEARNING? You master new topics on your own or in school. Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They donât need a prize or a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving. People who love learning experience positive feelings in the process of acquiring skills, building on existing knowledge, or learning something completely new. Over time, individuals with this strength may develop deep and wide knowledge. Their knowledge enables them to make significant contributions to othersâ understanding.
WHY DOES IT MATTER? Developing a love of learning is highly beneficial for an individual. It means that they are intrinsically motivated to deepen their existing skills and abilities, or learn something completely new. Since intrinsically motivated action is correlated with positive emotions, those who act on their love of learning may also have enhanced mental and physical health. Additionally, individuals who love learning have the desire and ability to overcome challenges, due to a sense of autonomy and control over their environment.

This year's Read-A-Thon will be March 14-25. It's time for Shrevewoodâs 2022 Read-a-Thon and BOY is it going to be a GREAT one! This yearâs Roald Dahl theme will hopefully inspire the kids, and just like MATILDA, it will hopefully fuel their thirst for knowledge. Though to be a FANTASTIC success, we need you, and we hope you are willing to donate to our main fundraiser this year.Â
We will be raising funds to equip every classroom with Flexible seating. Each classroom will be provided with three special tables that are moveable. These tables also have a dry erase capability negating the need for individual whiteboards. They will allow for enhanced learning and assist with small group collaboration, Math and Reading workshops.Â
To earn your sponsorship there wonât be a âDAHLâ moment at the school.
The kids will earn GOLDEN TICKETS by taking part in reading events throughout the fundraiser and be challenged by completing BINGO cards with reading tasks over the two weeks to compete in a grade-wide competition.  They also have the chance to earn additional MARVELLOUS incentives by raising money here; these include: Fidget Spinners, Ice cream vouchers and 10 tickets for BINGO. But they need your help to reach those goals. So, please be a PEACH and put your MAGIC FINGERs into your pockets, and if we meet our school-wide fundraising goal of $15,000, the school will put on a movie and popcorn night.Â
Students can access their grade level BINGO card on SCHOOLOGY through the ALL SCHOOL course. Â

Kilmer Middle Schoolâs Drama Department is excited to announce their performance of Matilda JR!
Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other's lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however â the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!
General admission performances are Friday, March 18th (7pm), Saturday, March 19th (2pm & 7pm), Friday, March 25th (7pm) and Saturday, March 26th (2pm & 7pm)! Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.kmsdrama.org (starting March 7th) or at all lunches at Kilmer Middle School the week of March 7th. TICKETS WILL NOT BE SOLD AT THE DOOR.
