Tardy

Tardy Sweeps

South County Middle School has noticed an increase in the number of students arriving late to classes.  Being on time is essential to creating a positive learning environment and minimizing distraction. Therefore, SCMS will begin to institute random tardy sweeps beginning the week of February 28.

Students who are late to class will receive a tardy/pass that must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to SCMS front office.  The first tardy sweep will result in a lunch detention.  Future tardy sweeps may result in after school detention and/or after school community service.

Please discuss with your student(s) the importance of arriving to each class on-time. Families can see students’ attendance through ParentVUE.  If you do not have access, please request an account here: https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/parent/

We appreciate your support of SCMS.

survey

Family Engagement Survey

Please make sure to check your email on March 13th for the survey from K12Insight,  with subject line: FCPS Family Engagement Survey.  FCPS is partnering with independent firm K12 Insight to administer the survey which will be open March 13 - April 3. It will be available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Korean, Farsi, Urdu, and Vietnamese. All responses will be confidential.

FCPS will launch a Family Engagement Survey on March 13, to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our school community. By participating in the Family Engagement Survey, parents/caregivers are making their voices heard around important topics impacting their students’ success.

If you cannot access the link in the email ask the front office staff of your child's school for a paper survey. They can complete it right there on the spot or take it home and return it during the survey window or you can use one of the school computers. Our front office staff will be happy to show you an available computer for you to complete the survey electronically.

Students have recently started completing weekly SOL Review assignments for their math classes. Here is some key information for you to support your student at home:

  • Students are permitted to use their notes, slides and information posted in Schoology, Mathspace, and other resources used in class. Students may also ask for teacher support in seminar or after school office hours.
  • Each review will count as a formative assignment, and will be included within the weekly homework time guidelines for students.
  • Reviews open each Monday at 7:00 am and are due every Sunday at 11:59 pm.
  • Students who do not show understanding of content will be reviewing questions during class and/or during seminar time.
  • More detailed information was given to students during class and is posted in their math Schoology course.

Please check with your student and reach out to your student’s math teacher with any questions!
