March 11, 2022

Dear Fairfax Family,

This has been a week of congratulations at Fairfax High School! Our Lions continue to impress us with their hard work and the recognition that comes with it. We have included details on our students’ amazing achievements in the announcements below, so please scroll down for more info!

Congratulations goes out to the Future Business Leaders of America! This is the 6th straight year our Lions have placed at the Regional Competition, with first place winners in five out of the six years. Sophomore Max Davis placed 2nd and Junior Angelina Tran placed 1st in their respective competitions!

At the DECA State Leadership Conference, Fairfax High School DECA earned the highest recognition with the Blue Chip award for FHS DECA chapters’ program of work and annual report. Fairfax DECA was also recognized as a Diamond chapter for their membership that includes over 200 students, 20 professional members and 20 alumni members. Grace Walters and Lucy Fitterer each earned a Scholarship, 19 students advanced to the International Career Development Conference, and several students earned medals.

Congratulations to our boys’ basketball team on a tremendous season and going to the state tournament.  This is an accomplishment our school has not experienced since 1967!

Go Lions!

This week, the celebration will continue as we embrace the many cultures within our school community, see a familiar face in a new place, and enjoy the excitement of new beginnings!

I am happy to announce that Ms. Ginny Cate has been selected as the Principal’s Administrative Assistant. Ms. Cate brings a wealth of experiences to the position, including serving as the administrative assistant for the FHS Academy for the past seven years!  She is a Northern Virginia native, a Fairfax City resident, and all three of her children are FHS grads. When she isn’t supporting our school, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, reading, music, and volunteering. We are excited to welcome her into this new role!

We have two big events this upcoming week! The first is our College Prep Night for 10th graders, Tuesday the 15th, at 6:30 pm. The second is our Cultural Celebration on Friday the 18th, at 7:00 pm. Both events are in our auditorium. We hope to see you there!

Finally, spring sports start this week. Check out the schedule below and come out to CHEER!

Warm Regards,

Kevin Greata

DECA Leadership Conference

Last weekend, 60 FHS DECA Members attended the State Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach. At the conference, students must demonstrate their strengths through both a written component such as an exam, extensive marketing research with a business or organization, as well as an interactive component such as a presentation or role-play. Industry professionals serve as the judges for these events.

As an integral part of the classroom curriculum, DECA’s industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. DECA’s competitive events directly contribute to all participating students being college and career ready when they graduate from high school.

Fairfax High School DECA earned the highest recognition with the Blue Chip award for FHS DECA chapters’ program of work and annual report. Fairfax DECA was also recognized as a Diamond chapter for their membership that includes over 200 students, 20 professional members and 20 alumni members.
