FH Weekly Update - 3/6/2022

Dear Freedom Hill Community,

We hope you are well! I am excited to announce that Mr. Kopacz and his wife, Erin, welcomed a baby boy into the world on Friday. August "Auggie" James Kopacz was 21 inches long and weighed 6 lbs., 6 oz. We wish the new parents all the best! Mr. Kopacz will be on paternity leave until May.

We are also excited to share that Mrs. Gina Toler will be serving as our Acting Assistant Principal until Mr. Kopacz returns. Mrs. Toler shadowed Mr. Kopacz last week and is very excited to support our students and staff. You can read more about her below. She begins at Freedom Hill this Friday, 3/11.

This week, we look forward to the conclusion of our Read-A-Thon. We are so impressed with all of the great reading happening at home and around the school, and our goal is within reach! Please remember that spring picture day is this Wednesday, as well.

As always, please contact us if you have any questions, concerns or great things to share about our students and staff. Have a great week.

In partnership,

Nicholas Zapadka

Principal

Meet Mrs. Toler

gt

My name is Gina Toler I am excited to serve as the Acting Assistant Principal to the Freedom Hill School community. I recently served as a Title I Educational Specialist in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), working closely with the Title I Office, Title I schools, and other FCPS departments to support division-wide initiatives.

I have spent 16 years as an educator in Virginia, 14 of them with FCPS. Prior to my position as a Title I Educational Specialist,  I served as  instructional coach, resource teacher, and classroom teacher. Through these experiences, I have gleaned insight on how best to support schools and teachers, and hope to leverage my experience to build capacity and promote collaboration in support of our students. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Texas, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Tarleton State University, Professional Licensure in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University, and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton.

I am a lifelong learner with a passion for education, collaboration, professional learning and putting student needs first. I hope to cultivate meaningful relationships with staff, students, and community stakeholders. I am very is excited about the opportunity to join the Freedom Hill ES community and continue their great work in supporting students and families.

                                                          ~Ernest Hemingway

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • What does a good listener do?
  • What does being a good listener have to do with Social Intelligence?
  • What can you do to be a better listener?
