I hope you enjoyed your weekend as we saw a glimpse of some warmer, albeit cloudy, weather. With the extra day off last week, we hope our students are ready for a strong finish to the 3rd quarter. This week, we will be helping our students continue to become aware of the importance of being on time to classes and will be holding hallway tardy sweeps each day this week. The purpose of a tardy sweep is to help students prioritize their timely arrival to their classes versus some of the social engagement that may distract them from doing so. We do want our students to enjoy their passing period with their peers, but we do need all students to ensure they are doing their very best to make their way from class to class in the time allocated. Our administrative team will be working with families to further address this important aspect of student responsibility for students needing extra support.
Espero que hayan disfrutado su fin de semana ya que vimos un atisbo de un clima más cálido, aunque nublado. Con el día libre adicional de la semana pasada, esperamos que nuestros estudiantes estén listos para un buen final del tercer trimestre. Esta semana, ayudaremos a nuestros estudiantes a seguir siendo conscientes de la importancia de llegar a tiempo a clases y realizaremos barridos de tardanzas en los pasillos todos los días de esta semana. Your Feedback is Important
This spring all Luther Jackson MS parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism. Understanding that this has been another unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.
The questionnaire will be collected online between March 7 and March 18. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has partnered with FourPoint Education Partners
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has partnered with FourPoint Education Partners, a national consultancy based in Maryland, to assess our current pathway elective courses and career pathway programs. Our middle and high school students will be receiving an email inviting them to participate in a brief survey. The email will be sent to their school email address and will be coming from Naviance with a subject titled: Student Survey Pathways Study. Participation in the survey is optional. Students will have the opportunity to complete this survey during Advisory on Friday, March 11.
In addition, our middle and high school parents will have an opportunity to provide feedback. More information will follow soon.

Did you know that Luther Jackson Middle School PTA has a food pantry on site that supports students and their families who are facing food insecurity? If you are passionate about caring for our kids, we need you on the Food Team! Volunteers can check out our new SignUp Genius to sign up for regular slots picking up donations or working in the pantry. We are also looking for 1 or 2 people who are able to dig in and help with operations such as organizing volunteers, planning funding and food drives, finding grant opportunities, and ensuring the smooth operation of the pantry in general. Course Registration for the 22-23 School Year
Most of our students met with school counselors last week and received one-on-one academic advising for rising 8th and 9th grade course registration. Those conversations will continue throughout the month of February. Courses will be then be added to SIS throughout February and into March. Madison and Oakton students are entering courses directly into SIS.

- Late buses run Monday through Thursday. Friday is pickup only.
- Late buses typically arrive between 4:45 and 5:00, so students could arrive home as late as 5:30 or 5:45. You are also welcome to pick them up any time from after school by 4:45pm.
- Your student's late bus is DIFFERENT than the regular late bus. We will go over late bus assignments with students each day after school.

After-School Signups post weekly on Fridays, and students have until the end of lunch each day to sign up. All students who want to participate need to sign up each week!

Ten LJMS students competed at the regional MathCounts Competition after school on Thursday, February 17.
Round 1 was done individually, in which competitors must answer 30 short answer questions with a time limit of 40 minutes.
Round 2 was also done individually, in which competitors must answer 4 sets of 2 short answer questions each, with a time limit of 6 minutes per set. Each question in this round is worth double.
Student scores from Round 1 and Round 2 were then totaled and the top 50% of competitors in our region continue on to States. This year we have 9 out of 10 of our competitors continue on to the State level competition!
Round 3 is the team round, where 4 students work together to answer 10 problems with a time limit of 20 minutes. The 4 person team has also made it to states…ranked 5 out of 17 schools in the region.
This is the first year the 4 person team from LJMS made it to states!
The team is coached by Ms. Erin Thompson. Students on the team include: Michael Philipov, August Tang, Surin Wettimuny, Chi Ton Nguyen, Victor Cao, Huylam Le, Chloe Lee, Joon Won Lee, Sibel Mehmed, and Tianxing Zhang.

La Ronda 1 se realizó individualmente, en la que los competidores deben responder 30 preguntas de respuesta corta con un límite de tiempo de 40 minutos.

Luego se sumaron los puntajes de los estudiantes de la Ronda 1 y la Ronda 2 y el 50% de los mejores competidores en nuestra región continúan hacia los Estados. ¡Este año, 9 de cada 10 de nuestros competidores continúan en la competencia a nivel estatal!
La ronda 3 es la ronda de equipo, donde 4 estudiantes trabajan juntos para responder 10 problemas con un límite de tiempo de 20 minutos. El equipo de 4 personas también ha llegado a los estados... clasificó 5 de 17 escuelas en la región.
¡Este es el primer año que el equipo de 4 personas de LJMS llega a los estados!
