Girls On The Run

Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT)

The online version of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test Third Edition (NNAT3) will be administered to all first-grade students on March 21st. It is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important that your child has had a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing.

The NNAT3 is a nonverbal measure of general intellectual ability. The test evaluates a student’s reasoning and problem-solving skills through the identification of patterns involving geometric shapes and pictorial designs. The test is designed to assess ability without requiring the student to read, write, or speak. Students are not expected to know the answers to all questions and will be given opportunities to practice sample items before taking the test. The NNAT3 is an abilities test, so children are not expected to study or prepare for the test the way they would for an achievement test.

For additional information, please contact Jennifer Ganci at jlganci@fcps.edu or Tracy Haynes at tlhaynes@fcps.edu

Your Feedback Is Important

This spring, all Pine Spring parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations, and professionalism.

Understanding that this has been another unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

The questionnaire will be collected online between March 7 and March 18. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

Yoga4Families

Pine Spring continues to be a Yoga4Classrooms school. We teach students how to use breathing paired with their body movements to support their mindfulness as part of this program. These strategies help students to self-regulate their emotions and behaviors.

On Thursday, March 10th, from 6PM-7PM, we encourage you to join one of our excellent teachers, Sarah Strong, as she helps families bring these strategies into the home. She will be sharing the thinking behind Yoga4Classrooms and how and when to use those strategies at home.

This will be a virtual event:

Cafeteria

Based on student, staff and parent feedback, we have made some changes to the cafeteria process at Pine Spring. Students are provided with a "calm period” during the first 5 minutes of each lunch period. This is the time that the students are encouraged to focus on eating their lunch and are asked to limit their talking. This time allows students a safe opportunity to take their masks off to eat without other students yelling and accidentally moving around the cafeteria without a mask. After that time, students can then talk at normal volume as they finish their lunch.

In talking with students, most report that this improves their feeling around the lunchroom and reduces stress. If you are interested in experiencing this change, we encourage you to be a cafeteria monitor volunteer. This role includes helping students follow cafeteria routines, helping to clear tables, and supporting positive student interaction while socially distanced.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Ms. Ganci for more information.

School Improvement and Innovation Plan

Each year, Pine Spring creates a plan to support our students’ academic and wellness success called a School Improvement and Innovation Plan (SIIP). This planning helps to guide our focus for the following year and how we allocate our school resources. If you are interested in participating in a committee that helps create and monitor this plan, please contact Ms. Yacubovich.

PTA Meeting- Thursday

The first Thursday of each month is the Pine Spring PTA Meeting. Again this month, our PTA will be hosting a virtual meeting from 7 PM-8 PM via their regular Zoom link

We encourage you to attend and share ideas, have your voice heard, and find ways to continue to make Pine Spring such a special place for students to learn and grow.

Do you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th? Please start your registration now. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. These are the 5 steps you need to take to register your child. If you have questions regarding kindergarten registration, please reach out to Ms. Breeden or call our main office at (571) 226-4400.

Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status. The only exception is student-athletes, who are required to share their vaccination status to participate in their sport or activity.

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Breeden, our student registrar in the main office.

Pine Spring PAWS Awards

Has someone at Pine Spring done something above and beyond? There are two great ways to share our team's impact on you, your child, or our community. You can submit a Pine Spring PAWS Award or an  FCPS Cares. Both are great ways to let our team know that they are making a difference for you and your child.
