Mask Mandate Update

FCPS has shared this information  to all families Friday regarding masking. Please know that FCPS supports universal masking. On March 1, parents can elect to have their child to not wear a mask in school. We will still have masks and offer masks to children. All staff, visitors and volunteers are required to continue to mask at this time. Students in our federally funded PreK program are also required to wear masks at this time. All students will still be required to weak mask on buses.

Read Across America Day is Wednesday, March 2nd

Read across america

Read Across America Day is almost here! Classroom teachers will receive a book in their mailbox that they can choose to read aloud to their class on March 2nd, and then add it to their classroom library to celebrate Read Across America.   All students will participate in a book giveaway in their classroom and get to select a book to keep of their very own.  All of this is possible thanks to donations from our partnership with Books are Food for Your Brain.  Every student will also receive a bookmark that they can personalize themselves.

In-School Vaccination Clinic Coming to Parklawn!

COVID vaccine

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is happy to partner with the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) to provide a 5-11 vaccination clinic at Parklawn Elementary on March 8 and March 29. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccination helps reduce the severity of illness and remains the best tool for ending the pandemic and is one of our layered prevention strategies.

The two vaccination clinics will be held in school during the school day and conducted within three weeks of each other to include the first and second doses. Vaccinations will be provided only to students enrolled at this school who have provided parental/legal guardian consent.

If you’d like to have your child vaccinated at this school clinic, (during the school day), please see the Tuesday folders for fill the parent/legal guardian consent and health history form and return to the main office March 3.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our schools open and safe places to learn.

Positivity Project for February 27-March 4: Enthusiasm!

P2

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Enthusiasm.  Enthusiasm means you approach life with excitement and energy. You energize people around you.

Enthusiasm is the ability to bring life and excitement to different situations. It often leads to a higher level of involvement and engagement both for individuals and for groups. Those who demonstrate enthusiasm bring an energy and level of intensity to individual and group work. These people are often identified as early leaders and innovators as a result of their outward excitement about a task or project. Look for these people to recruit new group members and generate ideas.

For groups, enthusiasm can be directly tied to high levels of success, happiness, and achievement. Enthusiasm is contagious. One person’s enthusiasm can spark others to think, speak, and act with more energy and conviction. Groups that are enthusiastic about tasks are much more likely to spend longer periods of time in service to the group’s overall goals.

To practice and encourage the character strength of enthusiasm with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions. Have a wonderful week!
