CES Weekly Update 2.28.22

Principal's Message

February flew by quickly! Messages and displays of kindness fill our building from the work over of our students this past month. It's touching to see how our students have embraced the many ways to spread kindness across our school community through uplifting poetry, artistic displays, acts of kindness and individual notes of encouragement and appreciation.

Mrs. Thomas and I have been meeting with each grade level for a mid year check in on Student Rights and Responsibilities to reframe our expectations and allow students the opportunity to embrace the differences each of us bring to make our community a very special place to learn and grow. It is important that each student know that they are a very important part of our school and their contributions are valued. Our year long PBL "How can you, as a Chesterbrook Chipmunk, share your identity and positively influence our Chesterbrook home so it continues to grow as a welcoming place for everyone?" continues to shape the framework for these important discussions.

As we think about our PBL question, we move forward into a week of change in our community, a time when masking will become a choice of our staff and students. While Covid is still present in our world, we want to safely move forward supporting everyone in the choices that are best for your family. Please discuss your preferences with your children. They should feel confident and will be supported in the choice your family makes. I want to assure our community we will do all we can to continue providing a positive and supportive community for our young learners. No division of masking will take place and no student will be treated differently for their choice. Our staff will also work to reinforce this is a choice and prepare our students for this transition. Hopefully soon, we will all look forward with this difficult time in the rear view and brighter days ahead.

With appreciation for your support,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

Wear Blue to Show Kindness Matters!
While February is the universal month of Kindness, Kindness should be a practice year round. Regardless of our masking preference, we want to ensure our school community is a positive and caring environment. Spread kindness and wear blue.

Kiss N Ride Reminders

The past few weeks we have extended our kiss n ride drop off/pick up area all the way down the sidewalk. This increases the number of cars we can support at one time. School begins at 8:50, so we ask that all students try to arrive by 8:45 to be in class and ready for morning meeting on time.

When making u turns, please do so at openings at entrance #1, which is a safer alternative to the bus exit, which places cars on the crosswalk.  Making a U turn in the middle of the road (not at an entrance/opening or intersection) is considered illegal.  We appreciate your understanding and use of caution.  This is important as we will have more walkers and bus riders as the weather improves.

Dr. Brabrand Meets with Students

Save the date! This is an opportunity for students to meet with Division Superintendent, Dr. Scott Brabrand, and engage with him on questions/concerns that are relevant to students in our area. This event will take place at: McLean Community Center 1234 Ingleside Ave. McLean, VA 22101

March 9th from 6:30 – 9 p.m.

For more information, please contact Mr. Jim Beggs directly at: jimbeggs@icloud.com
