2.  Opportunity to Apply for Student Representative to the School Board

Each year, in accordance with FCPS Policy 1802, FCPS students have the opportunity to apply for the position of the student representative to the School Board.  The student representative is not a member of the School Board but serves in a nonvoting, advisory capacity, representing the interests of the students of Fairfax County Public Schools.

Students who are currently in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to apply, and they do not need to be current members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC).  Applications are due March 23, 2022.  The application and related details can be found at Student Representative to the School Board.  Please contact Craig Perrier with any questions.  cjperrier@fcps.edu  571-423-4792

7.  Recent Student Successes

This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students.  I meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

  • Jack Abdo is doing great in the STEP program. He consistently works hard on the job and does what is expected of him. He has excellent manners and displays leadership with the other students by encouraging them to get back to work on time after their lunch and breaks. Jack is a fantastic student and employee, and the STEP staff truly enjoys having him in the program!  Ms. Erin Foster
  • Shon Gore has done a tremendous job working as an intern at his job site. Not only is he willing to try new tasks, he does so with a positive attitude. I am so proud of all that he has accomplished this school year. Keep up the great work, Shon! We are so lucky to have you a part of our STEP program!  Ms. Meghan Chavez
  • Akbar Muhammad worked at his job site for the first half of the year earning tips from customers for his excellent customer service skills. Akbar transitioned to a second job site for his internship a month ago and his work ethic earned him a part-time paid position.   Mr. Brian Tutem
  • Jawn Derice (Jade) Pellesco’s STEP jobsite is a software development company. Jade has taken her tremendous artistic skills, previously mostly freehand drawing, and entered the world of corporate graphic design. Using tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Jade has progressed at a tremendous rate, garnering praise from the job site team.  Mr. Patrick Finley
  • Ashley Sparks always goes to her jobsite with a positive attitude, and she consistently works throughout the day. Her job requires a lot of attention to detail, and she always delivers!  Ms. Sally Wolfe-Peralis
  • Arienna Sudama-Saroop's involvement in the French department's quest for cultural connection has been pioneering! Through a Virginia Department of Education program, we have been granted a collaboration with a French high school to teach each other culture through food. Arienna has been spearheading this collaboration with enthusiasm and dedication, which I profoundly appreciate.  Ms. Elaine Gonzalez
  • Zoe Rosas continues to work steadily in French 4 coming after school and always being quite conscientious about understanding what she has completed. She is truly a joy to have in class.  Ms. JoEllen Delamatta
