Important Upcoming Events

  • February 21- No School, Presidents' Day
  • February 24 - NAEP Testing

  • March 3- 2 Hour Early Release (Released at 12:15 PM)
  • March 4- Student Holiday, Staff Development Day
  • March 31- 2 Hour Early Release; End of 3rd Quarter

Eagle Families,

With the three-day weekend approaching, please find some time to rest and reconnect with your students. We are very proud of the ways that our students are moving into routines with things like the casting of “The Little Mermaid” and festivals/events for band, chorus and strings happening more regularly now.

We also wanted to take a moment to remind families that students cannot have food delivered to the school as this presents safety issues. If there is an occasion where you need to drop off lunch from a restaurant for your student, you must come to the main office, and then your child will be given a space to eat in the front office.

Finally, thank you for your ongoing support as the State has worked on the mask issues and policies. FCPS shared our approach with you all today. We look forward to continuing to respect the diversity of opinions of all of our families as we navigate these changes.

Happy Friday,

Tammy Silipigni, Principal

Gaming on Student Laptops

Recently we have seen an uptick in the number of students downloading unauthorized apps and gaming on their FCPS issued laptops, which are violations of the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) all families sign annually.  Unauthorized programs and add ons can interfere with the function of FCPS instructional applications.

Please ask your students to review the update in the student Schoology course as well as the AUP guidelines.  While we are working on solutions for limiting access to unauthorized downloads and gaming platforms, it is important to remind students that violations of the AUP may result in disciplinary actions which could include loss of access to an FCPS device.  Families can sign up to monitor student computer usage:

Is Your Child Missing Something?

Check Out Our Lost and Found

We have accumulated many misplaced items since we returned from winter break. Please encourage your student to check for their lost items in the lost and found area in the main office. Thank you.

Attendance

If a student will be absent or arriving late to school, parents or guardians should always report the details of the absence to the school. Teachers do not have access to mark a student excused for an absence, which is why it is imperative that parents contact the attendance office (instead of, or in addition to, the teacher) when their child is absent so we can mark them correctly.

To report an absence, parents have these options:

  1. Use the link to our online attendance form (preferred method) from the main page of the Katherine Johnson website
  2. Call the attendance line at 703-934-2424 being sure to include the spelling of your student’s last name and reason for the absence.

If your student will be picked up early for an appointment:
Please send them to the front office in the morning with a note stating the time of the dismissal.
Students will be given a pass to leave class and meet parents in the office. Parents should come to entrance #1, to the main office, with a photo ID to pick up their student for early dismissals.

For more information on the attendance policies, please visit the KJMS Attendance page.

FCPS Cares Program

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story so we can acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees.
