From our Counselors:
The past month Mrs. Schnaue and Mrs. Theberge have been working with students on conflict resolution and coping strategies. Conflicts are a part of our daily lives and students need to be able to handle whatever comes their way. Ask your child what effective strategies work best for them when resolving conflicts and what effective strategies they like best to help cope when they experience overwhelming feelings. Your child should mention some of the following: ignoring low level conflicts, moving away, taking a deep breath, using firm words such as “Please stop” or I” don’t like that”, thinking “Is this in my control or out of my control”, using “I can be calm” fingers and when they find those strategies are not effective then they should seek adult support.

2022-2023 Kindergarten Survey
We need your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2022, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.
If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2022, please complete this form and return it no later than March 1, 2022. If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Oakton families who do not have children currently attending school.
The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2022-2023 school year. We thank you in advance for returning the form no later than March 1, 2022.
Next week, students will talk about supporting others when they struggle.
This means when other people succeed, we are happy for them and cheer them on. Being supportive of people who succeed is good for our mental, physical, and emotional well-being and when people cheer each other on it begins a reciprocal process that forges stronger relationships. Those relationships are the foundation for a strong culture in teams, schools, and businesses.
