Kindergarten Registration for 2022-2023

It is once again that time of year when we need to make Kindergarten enrollment projections for the 2022-2023 school year.

Our Kindergarten Orientation will be held on March 30th. Details are in the works and more info to come. Please save the date and mark your calendars.

If you have a child who will be age 5 on or before September 30, 2022, then it is time to register your child for the 2022-2023 school year.  Children born after September 30, 2017 are ineligible to attend kindergarten.  The Code of Virginia does not allow exceptions for children born after this date.

To help us start registering for next year, please call Nancy Sawicki at 703-426-7000 to add your child’s information to our incoming kindergarten list.

We request that you begin the registration process as soon as possible. Registration information and forms are available online at: https://www.fcps.edu/registration/kindergarten-registration.

If this does not apply to you, please share this information with a neighbor whose child may be entering kindergarten. Thank you. We look forward to welcoming our new kindergartners and their families!

Read Across America 2022

KP Lions are encouraged to celebrate books and reading this week by reading independently and with others.  Reading a variety of stories and informational books helps us to learn more about ourselves, others, and the world around us.  We hope our KP Lions will share their thoughts as they read while participating in any of the optional activities below:

Monday 2/28 Reread a book that you love.
Tell someone why you love it!

Tuesday 3/1 Read a book that is new to you
Share a connection that you make as you read.  (“This reminds me…”).

Wednesday 3/2 Read to someone in your family, a pet, or a stuffed animal.  Find a cozy spot. Tell someone one way that you are growing as a reader.

Thursday, 3/3 Read to learn something new
Share a question that you have as you read.  (“I wonder…”).  Or, tell how your thinking changed.  (“I used to think…Now I think…”).

Friday 3/4 Listen as someone reads to you. Tell someone about the kinds of books you like to read.  Pick out a book. Then, plan which book you will read next.

Virtual Meet Me at the Library, March 2nd

Mark your calendar! Our next Virtual Meet Me at the Library event will be Wednesday, March 2nd at 5:30pm

Kings Park is proud to partner with WETA to bring back the amazing Meet Me at the Library program.  This program is a great opportunity for families to log in, listen to stories, play some games, and do a craft to promote literacy skills and explore some fun topics, like Names and Identities, Feelings, and Reading Skills with Super Why.   On March 2nd, families are invited to log in to Zoom at 5:30 PM for an hour-long session focusing on Feelings and Emotions with some amazing Kings Park teachers and staff.  A Zoom link will be provided closer to the event.  Every student that participates will receive a free book from WETA (which will be delivered within a week of the evening session).   We hope to see you online March 2nd at 5:30!

FCPS Cares

FCPS CARES is an opportunity for staff, parents, students, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others. Every month, a nominated employee from each region and Central Offices will be recognized as an FCPS CARES of the Month recipient. We’ll share their names in Employee News, and they will also have access to a new FCPS CARES banner for their profile photo in Outlook. Watch this video to learn more about FCPS CARES. We also encourage you to acknowledge a staff member who has gone above and beyond!  We love our KPES staff members, let's tell them how we feel!
