Kiss and Ride Car Safety

K & R

Please help us keep all of our students, staff and families safe during arrival and dismissal by following these routines:

  • In the morning, students may only be dropped off near door 2. It is not safe to drop students close to door 1 as they have to cross our very busy bus loop and we do not have staff prepared to supervise them crossing there.
  • For drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon, pull all the way down at door 2 to the end of the sidewalk. Parklawn staff will help students out of or into the car.
  • Adults should stay in the car during drop off and pick up.
  • Make sure to have your number clearly displayed during pick up.
  • Students should only enter or exit the car on the right side of the car closest to the curb.
  • Drivers should not go around the car in front of them unless directed by Parklawn staff.

Positivity Project for 2/13-2/19: Character Strength of Love

P2

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Love. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people.

The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships. When one person loves another person, that person: comforts and makes the other feel safe; sacrifices on the other’s behalf; supports the other during struggles; and places the others' needs ahead of their own. If you love a person, that person makes you feel safe and secure. You can be yourself with that person. You miss that person when they are not around.

On a group level, love is vital for the wellbeing of society. The world is endlessly interconnected. We are all dependent upon each other for survival and happiness. Love produces positive feelings, which help negate loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Without love, we cannot form strong relationships with our families, friends, or communities. A world without love is a dangerous world.

To practice and encourage the character strength of love with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

Have a wonderful week!

Understanding ESSER III Funding’s Impact on Student Success

Last fall, FCPS received $188.8 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funding. These funds have helped us safely reopen our schools and to keep them open. We have also been able to address the impacts of COVID-19 on students. If you are not familiar with ESSER III, here are a few things you should know about how it impacts student success.  ESSER III focus areas include:

  • Prevention and mitigation strategies to help keep schools open and safe for students and staff.
  • Academic intervention services, such as tutoring, after-school programs, and summer learning programs.
  • Professional development to ensure our schools are welcoming and culturally responsive to all students and families.
  • Multilingual engagement to ensure information is accessible to all families.
  • Additional support for students’ social emotional needs.

There will be two opportunities for you to tell us how well FCPS is meeting ESSER III requirements around a safe return to in-person instruction and continuity of learning. Please stay tuned for details! Visit the ESSER III webpage for more information
