WAKEFIELD FOREST WEEKLY MESSAGE

Food for Others

Thanks to the generosity of WFES families, the SCA, with the help of the McCabe and Brayshaw families, delivered almost 2,000 pounds of much needed food to Food for Others. (Pictured: Porter and Graham Brayshaw on the way to the food bank.)

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

We had a lovely start to our week. Many staff members shared that they were feeling lots of love from our students and community. We are grateful to our PTA for providing coffee and donuts on Monday to kick off our week.

We are excited that our school was highlighted in the article below. Innovation hour and electives are unique programs we offer at our school on Friday afternoons.

As we move toward spring we ask you to be our community ambassadors and let your new or existing neighbors know that early registration for school is hugely important for us to be fully staffed for the start of school. Families can let us know they are joining our school by completing this link. https://wakefieldforestes.fcps.edu/student-services/student-registration

Thank you.

Understanding ESSER III Funding's Impact on Student Success

.

Last fall, FCPS received $188.8 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funding. These funds have helped us safely reopen our schools and to keep them open. We have also been able to address the impacts of COVID-19 on students. If you are not familiar with ESSER III, here are a few things you should know about how it impacts student success.  ESSER III focus areas for Wakefield Forest ES include:

  • Prevention and mitigation strategies to help keep schools open and safe for students and staff.
  • Academic intervention services, such as after-school programs, and summer learning programs.
  • Professional development to ensure our schools are welcoming and culturally responsive to all students and families.
  • Additional support for students’ social emotional needs.

Our ESSER leads, Michelle Brooks and Katie Reynolds, are working on our after school program. If your child has been identified as a student who would benefit from these supports you will receive an invitation. More information about summer learning will come later in the spring.

Frost

Frost Family Festival is tomorrow, February 16

All rising 7th graders and their families are invited to the Frost Family Festival! School tours, classroom demos, table displays, and other activities will help provide an excellent glimpse into middle school life. Principal Anthony Harris and his administrative team will be on hand during the evening to answer all your questions. This event is also a fundraiser for the Frost PTA who provides volunteer and financial support for many of the programs at Frost Middle School. One and two-slice pizza meals, including soda and dessert, will be offered in the cafeteria so come for dinner, tour the school and meet with Frost teachers and administrators. This year we will only be accepting pre-paid orders for meals due to limited space available during our renovation. Please see the flyer for details
