2.  National School Counseling Week

Student Services

This week marks National School Counseling Week.  We are so thankful for all of our staff that work within our student services department here at Chantilly High School. These individuals are incredibly impactful on a daily basis, and an integral part of our daily work with students. Please take a moment to reach out to your student’s counselor and/or clinician to send them a much deserved thank you.

4.  Recognitions

Congratulations to the Chantilly Chargers Science Bowl Team, who won second place in the 2022 Virginia State High school Science Bowl competition held by Jefferson Lab, Newport News (Department of Energy).  Click here for results.

Chantilly had another successful Science Fair. While initially the science fair was going to be in-person, it was during winter break and an Omicron increase that had us pivoting to a virtual fair. There was participation of over 260 projects including 492 students and 62 judges. Students prepared Flipgrid presentations and judges watched them prior to the main event on February 2, 2022. Then with four zoom meetings, each with 8 breakout rooms aligned to corresponding categories students met with judges for 10 minutes of live ‘question and answer’ sessions. Click here to for the list of projects selected as winners.

Model Judiciary participants had their mock trials on Saturday, February 5, in virtual Fairfax County Courthouse courtrooms before practicing attorneys who served as judges. Despite the challenges associated with conducting their trials virtually, all teams did very well and received high praise from the judges who heard their cases!  Click here for results.

Chantilly HS seniors, Gitika Gorthi and Yukta Ramanan have been named Regional Finalists for the 2022 class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program, moving to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship.  We are so proud of these students for making a positive impact in our community

The Charger Winter Guard participated in their first competition of the season at Patriot High School.  The team came in 1st place in their class!  Click here for results.

Congratulations to the Chantilly Band members who performed in the All-District Bands last weekend.  These students earned spots through a competitive audition process and prepared this weekend’s concert in less than 48hrs with guest conductors from across the country.  State qualifiers will have the opportunity to audition for the All-VA Bands and Orchestra later this month!  Click here for results.

The USACO (USA Chemistry Olympiad) club competed in contest #1 of the ASCL (American Computer Science League) competition. Congratulations to the club members, they received an outstanding achievement award.

5.  Recent Student Successes

This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students.  I meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

  • Alejandro Aliste is a hard-working student, and his efforts are paying off in Chemistry! He is engaged in class, asks questions, and is able to help his peers. Keep up the great work!  Ms. Allison Maher
  • Raymond Creeks was the only student to attend CT to go over his test with me before attempting to receive points back via an alternate assignment. This shows an impressive dedication to his studies and is a testament to his drive for excellence that is unmatched in his peers.  Ms. Whitney Faries
  • Trevor George is such a hard-working student. He takes his learning very seriously in oceanography. He did great on his plankton quiz, showing determination and improvement each step of the way. Awesome job Trevor!!!  Ms. Michele Gates
  • Adam Gilbert has been working hard. He's watched videos and come for extra help, and it really worked! Keep up the increased effort, Adam!  Mr. Corey Porter
  • Alexa Gilbert is doing incredibly well in biology this year! She consistently exceeds expectations and continues to grow as a scientist. Thanks for being such a great member of our class, keep up the great work!  Ms. Nicole Abba
  • Since the beginning of the school year, Ms. Crismon and I have seen Roberto (Alex) Mejia Garcia flourish in Environmental Science. He has always been a focused, hardworking, kind, and polite student. Alex can always be counted on to volunteer for an experiment or to work with other students to gain understanding. We hope he continues to grow as a scientist!  Ms. Gwen Dillon
  • Throughout the school year, Krishiv Parekh has worked hard in Biology to be successful. He works hard to study, and I have seen improvement in his study skills throughout the year. Krishiv just completed his optional Science Fair project on his own. Way to go Krishiv!  Ms. Kaitlyn Sullivan
  • Nicholas Santiago Naranjo works extremely hard in class. He self-advocates for clarification and completes his assignments on time. He won't stop until he masters the content and solves the problem by himself.  Ms. Betty Ablimit
