Dear Churchill Road families,
We are grateful to each community member for their commitment to maintaining student safety and partnership here at Churchill Road. We also want to extend a very special thank you to our PTA for spoiling our staff earlier this week with an incredible variety of sweet and savory treats . This was greatly appreciated by all.
We hope you have a relaxing three day weekend and are able to enjoy some outdoor activities with the sunny weather!
Sincerely,
Cherith Pierson and Jennifer Niccolls

Welcome Mrs. Diorio
Hi Churchill Road family!
My name is Charlotte Diorio, and I am the new Family Liaison. I am so excited to be part of the working team at CRS! The Diorios are a proud “nomadic” military family who have been living in this area for four years. We have three children attending FCPS schools. Our eldest daughter is at Langley High School, our son is at Cooper Middle School and our youngest daughter is in kindergarten here at Churchill, so I have the pyramid covered!
I was born in East Africa (Uganda) and grew up in England. I enjoy travel, good food, all kinds of music and was part of an international touring children’s choir as a child!
I have a degree in Education and a Master’s in Military Social Work. I love working with children and their families and advocating for the vulnerable and at-risk populations. I have worked with NGOs that help improve children’s lives especially in Africa and have also worked with organizations in the States that help youth with developmental and mental health challenges.
I look forward to getting to know you all. I hope to provide support to families, old and new, to help everyone feel welcome, connect with human services, and orient to the culture of our school community. You can reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have at: cbdiorio@fcps.edu. You can also call or text at 574-424-7444.

Student Safety at Arrival and Dismissal Parking Safely
During arrival and dismissal, we have many students and their families walking to school along Churchill Road and surrounding streets. We ask that you help keep them safe by adhering to the following parking Fairfax County traffic rules:
-
Parking is not allowed in or within 20 feet of designated crosswalks. Even if you are just dropping your child off, please do not stop in a crosswalk. This makes it difficult for pedestrians to see around your car and for other cars to see pedestrians.
-
Parking is not allowed in or within 20 feet of an intersection. Please do not stop in the middle of an intersection even if you are just dropping off. This often causes other cars to want to pass around you which is especially dangerous in the intersection/crosswalk area.
-
Parking is not allowed within 30 feet of stop signs, within 10 feet of driveways, and within 15 feet of fire hydrants.
Thank you for helping ensure the safety of our students and community members.
Tips for Talking to Your Kids: Getting Past the Silent Treatment
We all want to keep current with our kids' lives, and it can be challenging to get kids to open up. Whether it's little things like knowing how their day was or big things like raising concerns for their wellbeing, it can be hard to get the conversation flowing.
On Monday, February 28 from 7 to 8 p.m., join local mental health professionals Mimi Weisberg and Heather Tedesco for a one-hour virtual program dedicated to family communication. We'll use this article from the Washington Post as a jumping off point to share concrete tips and strategies for connecting with your kids through conversation. (https://www.washingtonpost.com/parenting/2022/01/17/how-parents-can-provide-stability-teens-grapple-with-stress-uncertainty/).
The FREE program is open to all and the link can be found on our website http://mcleanscc.org/

Survey of Kindergarten Students for 2022-23
If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2022, please complete this form on the Churchill Road website no later than March 1, 2022. If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Churchill families who do not have children currently attending school.
Registrations for 2022-23 Now Underway
We are also taking registrations for the next school year for students in kindergrarten through grade 6. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. You can either stop by the office to pick up a registration packet or you can download it from: https://www.fcps.edu/registration/forms. Please note that forms downloaded from the website must be printed single sided.
Please contact CRS Registrar Angie Kim (ackim@fcps.edu) with any questions.
Save the Date! Kindergarten Orientation is March 3
Save the date! Our Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Thursday, March 3 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in our gym. Rising kindergarteners will spend this hour in a kindergarten classroom with the kindergarten teachers. Parents will be staying in the gym to continue the meeting with the principal and other Churchill Road staff. (At this time, we are anticipating that we will be able to have this event in-person. We will communicate further if there are any changes related.)
Please register by going to this link.
More information on our kindergarten orientation is available here.
