Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Families,

It was another great week and we all enjoyed being outside a little bit more.

This week we celebrated our School Counselors, Judy Trigiani and Erin Rinker. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, was created to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and highlight the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success. We are so grateful for each of them and all they do for our students.

     Have a great weekend

Save the date! Our Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Thursday, March 31st from 2:00-3:00 p.m. It will take place in our cafeteria. The program will finish at 3:00 p.m. (At this time, we are anticipating that we will be able to have this event in-person. We will communicate further if there are any changes related.)

At the beginning of the meeting, rising kindergarteners will be taken to a kindergarten classroom to do some activities with the kindergarten teachers. Parents will be staying in the cafeteria to continue the meeting with the principal and other Spring Hill staff.

Registration Paperwork - We encourage parents to complete registration paperwork prior to the event and bring it with them to drop off.  You are welcome to contact our registrar, Ms. Young-Joo Kim, with any questions prior to the event. American Heart Association

Kid's Heart Challenge Fun Run

This year we are inviting our Panther families to come and join us for an American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge Fun Run on March 11th.  As a Kids Heart Challenge Heart Hero, your student will help raise funds for the health of all hearts and become a heart hero! On Friday, March 11th, for PE class, we will be taking he students outside for a lap challenge. Students that sign up will be challenged to run as many laps as they can around the track within the PE time allowed.

Parents, we are asking you to sponsor your child and make a donation amount per lap or a one-time donation. More importantly, we are asking the Spring Hill parents to come join us and cheer on all the students participating in the KHC run!

Join today! Not only will you be helping fight heart disease and stroke (the No. 1 and No. 2 killers worldwide), but participants can earn fun thank-you gifts AND earn PE equipment for their school!

We are looking forward to seeing our community come together for this event!

Positivity Project

Next Week’s Positivity Trait is Love. The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have
close relationships.

Contact Tracing

The Virginia Department of Health recently announced that contract tracing in schools may be limited only to outbreaks. However, the CDC continues to recommend contact tracing, in combination with testing, wearing a well-fitting mask, and quarantine and isolation, as effective strategies to identify people with COVID-19 (cases) and to reduce transmission.

FCPS has and continues to implement CDC recommendations, to the greatest extent practicable, to prevent or reduce the spread of COVID-19 in schools and to foster the continuation of in-person learning for students and staff. As a result, FCPS will continue contact tracing until further notice.

Effective this week:

  • The FCPS Pause (Close Contact) Letter includes quarantine guidance and replaces the Fairfax County Health Department quarantine email to families.
  • The FCPS Student Quarantine Exemption and Attestation Form replaces the Fairfax County Health Department Vaccine Verification Survey.

Vaccinated, asymptomatic students may be exempt from quarantine following exposure by completing the FCPS Student Quarantine Exemption and Attestation Form. An automated email will be sent to the parent/guardian after completing the form which will serve as the student’s documentation of clearance to return to school. Hard copies of this form will be available in the main office if needed.

Elementary Language Arts Resource Review

Parents, students, and community members have a unique opportunity to help FCPS select important learning resources. These reviews do not happen frequently, so selected resources will be in classrooms for years and are a significant financial investment.

Resources for elementary language arts are being reviewed through February 28. Interested individuals can review and provide feedback on digital resources online. Physical texts can be reviewed at the Willow Oaks Administrative Center in the lobby. Please ask about the books at the reception desk from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. In-person review hours will be extended to 7 p.m. on February 17 and 24. You are encouraged to review both sets of resources for the full catalog of resources under review. Learn more about the elementary language arts resource review here.

Cafeteria Volunteers (1st - 6th Grade Parents)

Nominate a Spring Hill Staff Member for FCPS Cares!

FCPS Cares

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Spring Hill.
