Internet Safety Presentation is Tomorrow!

Internet Safety Presentation is Tomorrow!

Our Wellness Team and School Based Technology Specialist invite you to join us for an Internet Safety Presentation on February 7th. We will discuss why internet safety is important, strategies for being safe online, and the impact it can have on school performance. We will also share helpful tips for how you as parents can support your student's online use at home. The English presentation will be at 6 pm and the Spanish presentation will be at 7 pm. The zoom link will be sent via eNotify prior to Monday night’s meeting. We hope you are able to join us!

February is Black History Month!

Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history.  The Parklawn Morning News is sharing spotlights as we honor Famous Black Americans and their impact on our society today. FCPS provided a great depth of resources for classroom lessons and learning opportunities. Mrs. Zamudio, our wonderful librarian, is also highlighting and displaying books for students and staff to explore and learn more about these important contributions. Although Black History Month is celebrated across the country every February, we know these are important conversations to have throughout the year.

Positivity Project 2/5-2/11: Character Strength of Humility

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Humility. Humility means you do not seek the spotlight. You let your actions speak for themselves.

Humble people have an accurate (not underestimated) sense of their abilities and achievements. They hold the capacity to acknowledge their mistakes and limitations, and are open to advice and new ideas. They do not show off their possessions or accomplishments.

Developing humility is associated with positive developmental outcomes in individuals. It allows a person to honestly reflect on their abilities and acknowledge how and where they can improve. Humility opens them up to new ideas, advice, and (consequently) abilities that pride, arrogance, or pretentiousness often block. Therefore, humility makes them desired members of a team.

To practice and encourage the character strength of humility with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.

Message from the PTA

PTA

Parklawn PTA is looking for volunteers to help with two activities. First, we are currently accepting applications for our educator mini-grant program. These grants allow our school’s educators to purchase special resources and supplies for their classes to support student learning. We are also looking for volunteers to help review the short mini-grant applications. Second, we are planning a classroom contest to celebrate reading! Classes will answer questions about books and characters, and the top scoring classroom will win a package of books and other reading supplies. We are looking for a volunteer to work with our PTA Secretary to create the questions for the contest. If you are interested in helping with either of these activities, please email parklawnpta@gmail.com by February 15!
