1.  From the Principal's Desk

Dear Members of The Chantilly Community:

Democratic ideas cannot exist without the public spheres that make them possible.                                                                                                            Henry Giroux

I would like to use this week’s message to express our collective gratitude for your continued support of the teachers and staff at CHS. In recent years, schools have been increasingly at the center of many divisive issues. Health and safety protocols related to Covid-19, efforts to promote inclusive school communities, and how to teach about controversial issues are just some of the challenges that have caused unprecedented levels of strain in school communities across the United States. The teachers and staff at Chantilly recognize that we have a professional and ethical responsibility to serve ALL students and families in our community—no matter their ethnicity, religious beliefs, political affiliation, or income level. If you have an idea, concern, or need, the teachers and staff at CHS want to hear it. We do not take our community’s faith in our efforts for granted and realize that we have to keep working to earn it. Thank you for working with us in a collaborative manner to maintain a public sphere of trust and respect within the Chantilly community. It makes all the difference!

Sincerely,

Scott Poole

2.  Stop the Spread

Although Fairfax County’s COVID numbers are decreasing, Chantilly High School continues to record and trace student and staff cases. Each day, students report to the clinic and share that they came to school despite having had various illness symptoms including fever and nausea/vomiting within the previous 24 hours. We want to remind everyone that students should be fever-free and not feeling ill for 24 hours without medication before coming to school. FCPS will excuse illness-related absences—whether they are COVID or not. FCPS will allow students to make up missed tests and assignments.

If you are unsure if your child should stay home, please refer to the following guidance documents:

Thank you for helping CHS to “Stop the Spread” of COVID-19.

7.  Recent Student Successes

This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students.  I meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

  • Annabelle Cisneros has an infectious personality and positive attitude. Her effort and participation since returning from winter break has been tremendous. She has worked to complete all of her assignments and improved her test scores too.  Mr. John Glufling
  • In the last 2 months Wilber Gonzalez Guerrero has worked hard to raise his grades and be on time for class regularly. He also has joined a school team and has excelled athletically. Wilber has shown immense progress, involving himself in the Charger community and improving academically.  Mr. Andrew Tramel
  • Khongorzul (Jessica) Jambadorj is a natural leader who is always so kind and thoughtful. Jessica seeks responsibility and is always diligent in her work. She is such a pleasure to have in class.  Ms. Christine Choi
  • Angela Lu is an excellent student. She actively participates in classes and achieves beyond expectation. Angela is willing to serve the community and is kind to friends.  Ms. Young Lee
  • Abigail (Abby) Nave is an all-around awesome student. She is fully engaged in every class, volunteers to share her ideas, and delves deeply into topics so that she truly understands the story that is history. Even more, though, Abby is a wonderful person. Her positive attitude and personal integrity make her a delight to teach. I am so fortunate to get to know and teach her!  Ms. Angie Rollet
  • Krishiv Parekh has exceeded expectations lately with his homework assignments. He perseveres and always maintains a positive attitude when faced with challenges! Great work, Krishiv!  Ms. Antonette Bowman
  • Thu (Molly) Pham is new to Chantilly and since joining my class she is one of the hardest workers in my class. She uses feedback to prepare better assignments and asks questions to better understand history.  Ms. Mary Catherine Keating
  • Diego Valenzuela-Vasquez has worked hard this year. He is organized, turning assignments in on time, participating in classes, and taking his time with his work. He has really improved as a student.  Ms. Mary Catherine Keating
