Greetings!
We have entered quarter three of school, and you should be reviewing your child’s student progress reports within the coming days. It’s hard to believe how fast time goes! Each day we are thankful for our students, families, and the dedicated Glasgow staff. It is such a gift to be able to be in school with students and staff each day. If you missed the PTA Meeting last Tuesday about Academic Advising from our DSS, Mr. Chung, here is the recording. Thank you for your support.
Also, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Tonia Barnes has been hired as an assistant principal at Glasgow Middle School! She will work with 7th grade students, and continue working with the special education department. Dr. Barnes will also support our science department. Dr. Barnes replaces Ms. Kristie Ritchie, who was recently appointed to an assistant principal position in the Baltimore area. We are excited to continue to have Dr. Barnes as part of our leadership team (Dr. Barnes is in the picture below on the right standing next to our Executive Principal - Dr. Amelia Mitchell)!
While COVID-19 transmission remains high in our community, universal masking is essential for maintaining a healthy, safe learning environment for all – especially our most vulnerable students and those at a higher risk of severe illness. That is why our layered prevention strategies, including universal masking, remain in place.
Lastly, this week we head into Black History Month. Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. It has received official recognition from governments in the United States and Canada, and more recently has been observed in Ireland, and the United Kingdom. It began as a way of remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. We want to continue to celebrate our inclusive community and continue to fully see each other each day. Our school looks forward to partnering with our community to continue to get to know our families and students. Let's have an awesome week!
Humbly,
Victor L. Powell, Principal

Mask Up!: FCPS continues to require universal mask wearing in alignment with CDC guidance. Our layered prevention strategies have proven effective in keeping transmission rates low in our schools. We know our students are best served by in-person instruction. Adhering to our layered prevention strategies, especially universal masking, keeps our schools open and safe places for students to learn. Read more on our website. We will share more information later in the week.

Annandale High School Rising 9th Grade Open House: January 18, 6:00pm: Annandale High School is excited to announce we have rescheduled our Rising 9th Grade Open House to February 10 at 6:00pm. The transition from middle to high school can be difficult and stressful for some students. However, Annandale High School takes tremendous pride in ensuring the transition is as smooth as possible. This in-person event will provide students and parents the opportunity to learn more about what high school at Annandale is all about!
We will offer short optional sessions on our various Annandale programs throughout the evening, and teachers will be in their classrooms during the event to share all about our core and elective courses for 9th Graders. The goal is for students and parents to leave this event excited about all the opportunities you will have as an Annandale Atom. The following Breakout Sessions will be offered throughout the evening:
- Welcome to Annandale
- Course Request 101
- IB/MYP Program
- Activities and Athletics
- English for Speakers of Other Languages Program (ESOL)
- Special Education Office
- Student Life
If you have not done so already, we want to encourage students and families to access all the information needed for course selection on our Academic Advising website. This site has grade level information that will be presented by counselors, videos made by teachers describing elective and IB options, the 9th grade course catalog, and the course selection Google form that will need to be completed by each student. In addition, on the website you will find the recording from our Virtual Course Registration Night on January 18 that provides guidance for when students meet with their middle school counselor. If you have any questions, please contact Erik Healey at ejhealey@fcps.edu.

Student Prayer Accommodation: Per FCPS Policy, Glasgow provides accommodations for students who request time and space during the school day for prayer. Supervised prayer time will now take place at 2:11pm with the first dismissal bell when the first half of Glasgow students are dismissed for the day. Students should report to student services or the designated prayer area that’s been communicated to them.
Free Home COVID-19 Tests Available: Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order four free at-home COVID-19 tests, completely free. Visit covidtests.gov to order your free at-home tests and find free testing locations in your area.
YEARBOOK PICTURES NEEDED: Attention Glasgow Community. The Yearbook crew could really use your help. We are in desperate need of photos for the yearbook. It is our goal to represent EVERY single student from Glasgow in our book, The Pride. We are lacking a great number of people and student populations. We would absolutely love more candid pictures, of students having fun and being themselves. Examples of this could be sporting events, competitions, friends playing in the back yard or at a get together. If you can snag some pictures of your student AND their friends without masks, that is even better. Please take some pictures of your students and submit them using this form. Please be sure to include your email, names of students, and what is happening in the pictures to ensure accuracy. Thank you so very much for your help. If you have any questions, please email our yearbook adviser, Rushel Grillo: rngrillo1@fcps.edu. Thank you.
