Principal's Message

Dear Shrevewood Families,

We can hardly believe that we are already a week into the third quarter. This year is really flying. The saying that "the days are long but the years are short" continues to seem more relevant each week.

It has been a wonderful week. We are so proud of our Owls as they continue to learn and grow. The smiles and excitement on Tuesday morning were amazing.

Please continue to watch for communication from FCPS and Dr. Brabrand on the current FCPS safety protocols and layered prevention strategies. Maintaining student and staff safety, while keeping students learning in school is the main focus for everyone in FCPS.

Best wishes for prosperity and good health to all who celebrate the Lunar New Year next week!

Have a fabulous weekend,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Susie Lilburn, Assistant Principal

Region 2 Outstanding New Principal

Congratulations to our Principal, Joshua DeSmyter, on the announcement of being named FCPS Region 2 Outstanding New Principal!

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

Kiss and Ride

In order to ensure safety for all students, please be sure to follow correct arrival and dismissal procedures.  Pick up and drop off locations for Kiss and Ride, walkers and bus are very important.

PTA Information Session

Want to be more involved and help out at Shrevewood!? Come learn more about being a PTA Board member or Committee Chair! Hear from current and former chairs/members and ask questions. We hope to see you there! (Zoom meeting February 2, 8PM).

2022-2023 Kindergarten Survey

We need your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2022, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2022, please complete this form and return it no later than March 1, 2022. If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Shrevewood families who do not have children currently attending school.

The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2022-2023 school year. We thank you in advance for returning the form no later than March 1, 2022. Should you have any questions please contact our SIA/Registrar, Maria Giuliani.

SR&R Reminder

Student Rights and Responsibilities The Student Rights and Responsibilities document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable and supportive school environment. We ask that you use this document as a framework for discussing these expectations with your child or teen so that he or she is well prepared for success when the school year begins. You will also find that this publication includes information that you may need throughout the school year, including contact numbers and other resources. The Student Rights and Responsibilities document and its translations are located under "SR&R Video and Related Documents" Parent/Guardians can acknowledge receipt of the SR&R in ParentVue in your child’s SIS account or sign the Parent Signature Sheet to acknowledge that you have received this document. If you haven’t already done so, please e-sign through ParentVue or return the signed signature sheet to us along with the Q2 report card envelope.

Cold Weather Safety

We often have to consider a number of factors related to student activity outdoors during cold weather. Common sense requires us to look beyond a specific temperature and consider factors such as wind chill, whether the ground is frozen or the sun is shining, how well the children are prepared to play outdoors (jackets, gloves, and hats), what activity the children are participating in, and the length of time to be spent outside.

It is the intention of the school to hold recess during cold spells and parents should have their children prepared to play outdoors (jackets, gloves, and hats) as this decision is made by the school each day. During a NWS Wind Chill Advisory, recess will be limited to no more than fifteen (15) minutes for any outdoor activity. During a NWS Wind Chill Warning, we will hold indoor recess.

You can find more information about Cold Weather Safety here.

When sending your children to school with their winter accessories, please remind them to keep their hats, gloves or other winter gear in their backpack or jacket pockets when returning inside so it will not be lost. If your child does misplace their jacket, hat, etc., it will be kept in the Lost & Found. Please contact the main office if you need to check the Lost & Found for missing clothing.
