Message from the Principal

Good afternoon Saxons,

It’s a bit delayed but Happy New Year! The extended winter break definitely was an unexpected surprise. It has truly been wonderful finally having students and staff back in the building. The other unexpected, and not so welcome surprise, has been the increased number of Covid cases. A huge thank you for your partnership in ensuring a safe learning environment for all of our students and staff. Please continue to encourage your student to wear the mask over the nose and mouth when inside of the building. Also, please keep your student at home when they aren’t feeling well. This will minimize the risk of other students getting sick or possibly being paused from instruction should your student test positive for Covid.

Congratulations to the Langley Forensics team as they took second place overall at the Northern Region Tournament.

With the increase in Covid cases, it is important that everyone is familiar with division expectations and procedures related to Covid illness or exposure. Please reference the division Covid guidance to find answers to any questions you may  have.

As we prepare to observe the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 17, we are also watching for the potential of winter weather early in the week. Because we used all of our traditional snow days during last week’s snowstorm, any future inclement weather days will include virtual learning whenever possible.

We all need to prepare in order to have a successful inclement weather virtual learning day. Here at Langley, teachers and staff will make sure students have the devices and accessories they need and will go over how to log in to their virtual learning tools. Teachers will let students know what to expect for their classes.

At home, we ask that you do a few simple things that will make an inclement weather virtual learning day run smoothly:

  • Make sure students bring their device home Friday and be sure the device is charged ahead of Tuesday.
  • Review the Student Technology Readiness Checklist with your child and complete all the at-home readiness steps.
  • Remind your child that the inclement weather virtual learning day schedule includes a two-hour delay so they can check their devices and make sure they are able to log in properly.
  • Remind your child that attendance will be taken on inclement weather virtual learning days.

FCPS will announce a virtual learning day in the weather closure announcement on our website and social media channels and through email communications and local media. Thank you for your help in making sure an inclement weather virtual learning day is a successful one for your student.

I wish each of you and your families a safe and happy long weekend.

Fondly,

3
