Tomorrow, Thursday, January 20th will be a Virtual School Day

Dear Oak Hill Families,

Fairfax County Public Schools has announced a virtual day for tomorrow, January 20, 2022.  Students will have synchronous (teacher-led) instruction with a two-hour delay.  All elementary schools will begin at 10:30 a.m. During this delay, please ensure that your instructional device is charged, and that you are able to access Schoology and Zoom links.  Your child’s classroom teacher will email all students and families with instructions for virtual instruction along with an instructional schedule no later than 9:15 AM tomorrow.  During each instructional block, teachers/staff will check in with students with a brief mini lesson, assign independent learning tasks, and be available for support. Attendance will be taken during snow days. If your child cannot attend, please email OakHillElem.Attendance@fcps.edu or call the attendance line (703-467-3535) and leave a message with the reason your child is absent.

The previously-scheduled early dismissal will remain in effect. Students will be dismissed from virtual instruction two hours early. This will allow instructional staff the two hours needed to close out the quarter.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support your child's learning at Oak Hill!

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

2022-2023 Kindergarten Survey

We need your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2022, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2022, please complete the Survey of Preschool Children form and return it no later than February 11, 2022.  A hard copy of the form is coming home in your student's Wednesday folder.   If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten and do not currently have children attending Oak Hill, please share this information with them so that we may reach as many rising kindergarten families as possible.

The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2022-2023 school year. Please email the completed form to Katherine Dillard at kjdillard1@fcps.edu. We thank you in advance for returning the form no later than February 11.

After our meeting and general PTA business, we are excited to announce that Rachel Bailey, former ADHD coach, intensive in-home mentor, and psychotherapist for children, adolescents, and adults, will be virtually presenting to Oak Hill parents.  Thank you for providing feedback on the specific topic for this presentation!

Presentation Topic: Responding to Big Emotions and Other Drama in Your Home: When some kids don't get their way, their behavior not only becomes irrational, but can also become quite dramatic. In this workshop, you'll learn why certain children have such big emotions and behavior. You'll also learn how to reduce the frequency and intensity of these big reactions when they're happening... and just as importantly, what you can do to prevent them in the first place.

We hope to see you there!
