1.  From the Principal's Desk

Dear Members of the CHS Community:

Happy Friday. As we prepare to observe the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 17, we are also watching for the potential of winter weather early in the week. We used all of our traditional snow days during last week’s snowstorm. Any future inclement weather days will include virtual learning whenever possible.

We all need to prepare in order to have a successful inclement weather virtual learning day. CHS teachers and staff are working hard to ensure students have the devices and accessories they need and have worked with students to make sure they know how to access their assignments in Schoology and log into Zoom.

At home, we ask that you do a few simple things that will make an inclement weather virtual learning day run smoothly:

  • Make sure students charge their devices.
  • Remind your child that the inclement weather virtual learning day schedule includes a two-hour delay so they can check their devices and make sure they are able to log in properly. (See schedule below)
  • Remind your child that attendance will be taken on inclement weather virtual learning days.
  • Please also complete the Technology Readiness Steps for Students with your child:

    1.    Log onto your laptop with your student ID and password.

    2.    Connect your laptop to your internet connection.

    3.    Login to Google account.  In the Chrome browser, go to www.fcpsschools.net, sign in with your fcpsschools.net account.

    4.    Log into Schoology. Make sure you can access your courses.

    5.    If you have any issues with these steps from home, go to the Tech Support for Families page, to submit a ticket for support.

8.  Recent Student Successes

This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students.  I meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

  • Jordy Cortes-Salinas is a hard-working student with a positive attitude in art. He is very creative with new ideas and looks to improve his talent. He is truly a joy to teach!  Ms. Terilynn Thomas
  • Gabriela Fontanilla is a confident, positive, and great role model to her classmates. She has always shown excellent time management skills and the ability to set goals and achieve them. She is a pleasure to have in class!  Ms. Christine Choi
  • Kaydence Greene comes to class every day with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She always gives 110% in any sport or activity we are doing in PE. She is a leader and she is very inclusive and friendly to everyone in our class and other classes. Kaydence is able to get other students to jump in and join in the activity as well. Overall, she is just an incredible student and I enjoy having her in class.  Ms. Kristina Plaugher
  • McKenzy Hopkins continues her strong performance in class and after-school. She has a wonderful, positive attitude and is always encouraging her fellow students in their performances and writing process. In rehearsal, McKenzy is constantly discovering new things about her character and bringing depth and life while maintaining a high level of energy throughout her performance.  Mr. Andy Shaw
