CES Weekly Update 1.9.22

Message from the Principal

We look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow. Please know we will be diligent with continued safety measures as our staff and students return.

As we return from break, please make sure you health screen your child before sending them to school on Monday, January 10. If your child does not feel well or presents with any COVID-like symptoms, please keep them at home and seek medical advice. Many symptoms with the new variant mimic allergy symptoms. If your child has new symptoms, please ere on the side of caution. We appreciate your support in keeping our Chesterbrook community healthy!  For parent convenience, click here for the Daily Health Questionnaire.

Communication and teamwork are critical components supporting the education of our students through this pandemic. Your partnership and support is invaluable.

With appreciation of your support,

Stacy Kirkpatrick

Parent Check In/Survey

We have responded to families that have completed the survey. If you have needs, we ask that you continue to report cases and needs on the survey. This survey will allow us to ensure we have responded and track all cases and needs in a timely manner.

In an effort to support any questions you may have and support our community, you are invited to share any concerns or questions with our administrative team so we can be proactive in our return.

New Guidance for Returning to School After Quarantine, Pause, or Isolation The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new guidance for isolation and quarantine in late December, with multiple updates in January. This guidance reduces isolation and quarantine to five days. The VDH states that school districts may choose to continue more stringent isolation and quarantine requirements or may implement the new CDC guidance.

FCPS will adopt the new guidance with one exception:

  • FCPS will adopt CDC’s recommendation for a five-day period of quarantine for  students and staff.
  • FCPS will adopt CDC’s recommendation for a five-day period of isolation for staff.
  • FCPS will NOT adopt CDC’s recommendation for isolation for students as we are unable to implement the required physical distancing protocols during meals.  FCPS students with COVID- 19 will need to continue to complete a ten day isolation period.

Return Guidance for Students who are Close Contacts to Community Related Exposures

NEW!   FCPS will no longer require Return to School documentation for a student deemed a close contact outside of the school environment, in the community. FCPS recommends that families adhere to the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) quarantine guidance, as appropriate. If families have questions regarding COVID-19, they are encouraged to consult their physician or the Fairfax County Health Department

FCPS Covid Testing Sites

Starting back up this week, students may obtain COVID-19 diagnostic testing at six drive-through sites in Fairfax County. Diagnostic testing is provided for anyone who has symptoms or is identified as a close contact of someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Appointments are not required for diagnostic testing but families must register in the secure online portal. When you register and provide consent for your child to be tested, they will also be added to Chesterbrook’s screening testing pool. If you do not wish for them to be part of the weekly screening testing pool, simply log back into the online portal after your child’s test is complete and withdraw consent.  More information about diagnostic and screening testing, including site locations and schedules, is available on our website

Vaccine Availability for Children Ages 5-11

The Fairfax Health District and Fairfax County Public Schools are hosting free COVID-19 vaccine clinics at 10 schools for students 5-11 years of age. Children do not need to be an FCPS student to attend these clinics. Vaccines will not be available for those 12 years and older. Children must be accompanied by a parent or another responsible adult at all community vaccination sites.

The Fairfax County Health Department’s webpage has information about the clinics and resources for finding and scheduling a vaccine appointment. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities is available on our website

If your child is fully vaccinated, you may share that information with Mr. Troskey and he will update the health record.
