Happy New Year!

It has been wonderful to see your children back in action at KPES! To have our hallways filled with laughter and learning warms our hearts on these chilly January days. We recognize that some of our students are currently not in school due to the impact this new surge has had on our community. We appreciate everyone's diligence and attention to following FCPS Daily Health Screener and reaching out when there is any concern. As a school community we will support each other through this pandemic.

At KPES, we want to assure you we are doing everything we can to maintain a safe and in-person learning environment for all students and staff. We are grateful that almost 100% of our staff are in the building this week, and staff have been eager to get back in the routine with your children. We do however recognize that winter colds, and other illness like COVID could occur. We have been working hard to put plans in place to support your children should our teaching staff have to be out due to quarantine or isolation requirements. We know this will be important to maintain the high-quality and consistent instruction our families rely on as part of the Kings Park ES community.

Most importantly know we are working hard to usher in a new year that is full of learning, fun and wellness. As always, if you have any questions/concerns, if your child is a close contact of a COVID positive individual OR tests positive for COVID, please email your child’s teacher and myself (dotty.lin@fcps.edu) as soon as possible. We want to be able to promptly provide any needed support and walk you through any necessary next steps.

Jenna Campbell

Welcome to Jenna Campbell

We are pleased to announce that Jenna Campbell will be joining the KP Family as our interim assistant principal while Mrs. Donahue is on maternity leave through Spring Break. Please join me in wishing Maura Donahue well with her expanding family.

KP Families,

First and foremost I am a mother of 2 amazing human beings! Beckett is in 4th grade and Harper is in 2nd grade at Union Mill ES. My husband and I will celebrate 15 years of marriage this summer and are currently planning a trip to celebrate at the end of the school year! I received my BA in education from SUNY Cortland and my Master’s in Literacy from Bank Street College of Education. Last May I graduated from UVA with my Administration License through the ACC program. I began my teaching career as a 2nd grade teacher in the South Bronx before moving to FCPS. Since joining FCPS 11 years ago, I have been a classroom teacher, intervention teacher, and reading specialist before landing my current role as a Literacy Resource Teacher in The Office of School Support. I am an avid football fan, Peloton enthusiast, and book worm! I look forward to getting to know each and every member of the Kings Park family!   - Jenna Campbell

FCPS Cares

FCPS CARES is an opportunity for staff, parents, students, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others. Every month, a nominated employee from each region and Central Offices will be recognized as an FCPS CARES of the Month recipient. We’ll share their names in Employee News, and they will also have access to a new FCPS CARES banner for their profile photo in Outlook. Watch this video to learn more about FCPS CARES. We also encourage you to acknowledge a staff member who has gone above and beyond!  We love our KPES staff members, let's tell them how we feel!

Please join us for our February 3 PTA meeting. The PTA plans to host this meeting VIRTUALLY ONLY via Zoom. Here is the call-in/Zoom information: Go to join.zoom.us in your internet browser Meeting ID: 258 233 8875 Passcode: KPKG2020! In addition to our normal PTA business, the PTA plans to hold two important votes:  one to update our 2021-2022 budget and one to elect the 2022 Nominating Committee.

Nominating Committee.  Each year the PTA elects a Nominating Committee to put forth a slate of candidates for the PTA's next executive board.  The PTA plans to elect the nominating committee at our February 3 meeting.  Are you interested in serving on this committee?  Please contact PTA president, Emily St. Onge, at kpkgpta@gmail.com.  Similarly, please reach out to Emily if you have any interest in serving on the 2022-2023 PTA board.

The PTA is excited to bring after-school activities back to our schools this Spring! While definite plans are still being established, we are tentatively bringing back some old favorites and new faces.  Look for more information on options, sign ups, costs, and more in mid-January in our newsletter, on our Facebook group, via the schools' emails.

The PTA is excited to host a variety of FREE STEM activities in February!

Baskets & Bingo is getting a new name! Our annual Spring fundraising event is now BASKET BONANZA!

Once again, we will be holding the basket raffle online. Instead of walking around a gym or library and submitting your tickets into a bucket for the baskets, you can peruse from the comfort of your own home. If you're new to the community, take a look at our website for information on this event.  We also have information on how the baskets are created and this year's themes!

The event will begin in early March with the drawing for the winners on Thursday, March 17th.  Stay tuned for more information on how to volunteer and participate!

Sincerely,

Dotty Lin and Maura Donahue
