Franklin MS Weekly Update - January 10

Franklin Families and Students,

Welcoming our students, staff and community back into the building after the Winter Break is one of my favorite things to do as a principal. The opportunity to say Happy New Year to everyone in-person was delayed by a week because of the winter weather, but I am glad I had the opportunity to do so this morning. In this message you will find some important Health and Safety Information as well as several updates about the upcoming Academic Advising process for Rising 7th, 8th and 9th grade students.

Health Reminders and Resources:

Even in these uncertain times and with all the challenges we are facing, we are able to continue to provide a safe learning and work environment. FCPS has multiple layers of prevention we will continue to deploy to mitigate COVID-19 transition in schools to include universal masking, enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, physical distancing to the greatest extent possible, and requiring that students and staff stay home when sick.

Please review the most recent Guidance for Returning to School After Quarantine, Pause or Isolation and the FCPS operating plan for the next three weeks, which can be found here.

How You Can Help:

  • Please keep your student or students home if they are not feeling well; this is not just about COVID, it is also cold and flu season and we all want to keep our students and staff healthy.
  • Sign your child up for optional screening testing and make use of our diagnostic testing if your child has symptoms.
  • To best curb this surge and mitigate to decelerate, please put an extra couple of masks in your child’s backpack in case they lose theirs during the day, and remind them of the expectation for everyone to wear their masks over their mouth and nose.
  • Remember to complete the online attendance form or call the attendance line (703-904-5151) if your child will be absent.
  • If your child has been exposed to a COVID positive case and needs to quarantine or if your child has tested positive, please contact Dustin Wright or Michelle Lyttle to determine next steps. We are happy to help navigate our families through the school side of this process.

Our FMS staff will continue to partner with you to maintain the health and safety of our school, as well as keep you up to date on changes.

We just finished a great day at our school and we are looking forward to a safe and healthy week at Franklin. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

Franklin MS After School Program Information

With the surge in COVID-19 cases and the new variant, FCPS is limiting many activities in our schools. To that end, we will be holding off on any middle school after-school activities. We will reevaluate by January 14 and make a determination at that time of any next steps. Likely and hopefully we will go back to normal operations at that time.
