Message from the Principal

Greetings Saxon Families,

Happy New Year!  I hope that you were able to enjoy the unexpected extended winter break. Unfortunately many of our Langley families (to include staff) were impacted by COVID during our time off.  FCPS intends to remain open as we navigate this COVID spike - doing everything we can to mitigate spread and cover classes to keep us operational.   PLEASE help us ensure safety for students and staff by keeping your student at home if they are experiencing any COVID symptoms.

It is important that when we return to school students arrive daily with their fully charged computer and a headset. This will be important in the event their teacher(s) cannot physically be present (due to isolation/quarantine) in the classroom to provide instruction.

As we are working to ensure the safety of students and staff, we ask for your assistance with regard to after school. In order to ensure the smallest number of students in the building after school hours, including late bus days, please discourage your student from staying after unless they have a designated academic need.

I wanted to make you aware of some operational changes that will be occurring for the next few weeks and share some health reminders.

Updates:

  • All field trips will be canceled for the first two weeks of January.  We will reassess these precautions on January 14. Large group in-person gatherings are discouraged at this time to include: dances, pep rallies, and visits to other buildings, etc.
  • High School Athletics will continue with limited spectators.  There will be no general admission to any sports contests through Friday, January 14th. Spectators will be limited to family members of both the home and visiting teams.  Coaches will communicate specific details with athletes prior to their next competition.
  • All parent in-person events will be moved to a virtual format.  A link will be provided in advance of the scheduled event.
  • Transportation is experiencing a large number of absent drivers as we return from winter break.  The Transportation office will do their best to notify families if their routes are running more than 30 minutes late.  Routes that are running more than 10 minutes late should be posted in the bus delay system.

Health Reminders:

  • Please remind your student to follow all layered prevention strategies to include correct and consistent use of well-fitted masks at all times (except when eating), washing hands frequently, and staying physically distant as much as possible in classrooms, cafeteria, hallways and other areas.
  • CDC mask guidance has not changed. HERE is the Oct. 25, 2021 CDC guidance on the type of recommended/not recommended face masks. Masks should have multiple layers and be well fitted to one’s face. We will monitor closely should the guidance change.
  • Please reference the FCPS website for procedures regarding a student who tests positive for Covid or is identified as a close contact.
  • As of today, the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) will communicate with close contacts through email ONLY. This change in process has been implemented due to the high volume of cases to ensure contacts are provided guidance in a timely manner. Via email, close contacts will be provided information regarding quarantine, testing, and the vaccination survey.
  • We will continue to use outdoor spaces as much as possible for eating, learning, and/or other extracurricular activities.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Wishing you wellness,

3
