Important Health Reminders

As with any illness, please keep your child home from school if they are not feeling well.

Please make sure that your child has plenty of well-fitting masks, and remind your child to wash their hands frequently during the school day. Schools have plenty of soap and hand sanitizer available and additional masks should your child need them. If your child has not been vaccinated, please take advantage of the clinics across the region.

If your child is symptomatic and awaiting test results, please have your child/student stay home until they receive their results. We are aware that test results are taking longer than expected due to the holiday.

If your child has been in contact with someone who has tested positive but is asymptomatic, please stay home until you have received a negative test result.

Anyone who is asymptomatic and was not exposed to anyone with COVID but chose to take a COVID test, does not need to wait for test results to come to school.

As always, please follow the process outlined on the website should your child test positive. If your child tested positive for COVID during the holidays and has been cleared by a medical professional or the Health Department, you do not need to notify your school.

FCPS Laptop Activity Reports

FCPS has new tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families

You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours.

Find out more and sign up for these services on our website.

Important - Submitting Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications

School meals provide nourishment that allows students to excel in the classroom and to grow and thrive. This year, FCPS continues to offer no-cost meals to all students, thanks to a waiver granted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

While the meals are no cost for all, it is still important for families to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FRM) application because it impacts much more than meals.

FRM applications help link families to other benefits, such as waiving fees for SAT, ACT, and AP exams as well as other school fee-based programs. Qualifying students may also have access to scholarships, classes, or services provided by agencies and organizations outside FCPS. FRM applications also help determine additional education funding for your child’s school.

Winter break is a great time to complete the FRM application. Find out more on our website.

SAT Accommodations

Deadline January 4

Students with disabilities who have testing accommodations documented in a 504 Plan or an individualized education program (IEP) may be eligible for testing accommodations on the Advanced Placement (AP) exams. The College Board must approve a formal request for each student. Please note that testing accommodations listed on IEPs or 504s are not automatically granted by the College Board for AP testing, so families must apply separately to the College Board. If a student already has College Board accommodations approved from a previous PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, SAT, or AP test, then no further action is needed. Once instated, accommodations remain in place for all College Board testing. Students who would like to apply to the College Board for testing accommodations must submit application forms to the school before January 4, 2022 to meet the College Board deadline.
